Well, not the characters precisely, but the voices behind them will. Martin Freeman, Noel Clarke, Joan Collins and Tim Curry are joining up for a new animated Christmas cartoon, that currently goes by the name of Saving Santa.

Real original title there.

Set, at the North Pole (duh), an elf has to save Santas’ reputation after a hijink goes out of control, in a presumably wacky fashion. Freeman plays the role of the titular clumsy elf who has to take back the North Pole workshop HQ after a villain discovers where exactly the secret facility is.

It may seem like some spectacularly bad timing for such a film to be announced, especially after how the Aardman comedy Arthur Christmas has just arrived and reinvented the animated Christmas film, but the project will reportedly be used as a springboard for more animated properties from producer Gateway films.

Ricky Roxburgh has written the script and Leon Joosen is directing, and while a release date has yet to be announced, it will most likely be in time for this years holiday season when the Jingle schrek normally floods theatres.
