Before you get excited, Saving Mr Banks is not some kind of post-economic-crisis sequel to Saving Private Ryan. As we previously reported, it tells the tumultuous behind the scenes story to Disney’s Mary Poppins.

Now The Blind Side director, John Lee Hancock, is possibly interested in taking up the director’s chair.

The tale will focus on P.L. Travers, the woman who wrote Mary Poppins, and of the 14 years that it took Walt Disney to convince her to sell him the film rights to her book, only to have her regret it immensely when he changed details of the very personal story she had written. It’s been heavily rumoured that Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks will be cast in the lead roles, while one of the Terra Nova showrunners, Kelly Marcel, wrote the script.

Hancock is currently also attached to direct an adaptation of John Grisham’s 1997 thriller novel, The Partner.
