Kenneth Branagh prepares to pull Jack Ryan out of retirement

Jack Ryan is a character that hasn’t been seen on the silver screen for quite a few years now, having been stuck in all kinds of development hell as he attempts to resurface.

Four films starring the CIA agent have been released over the years, but ever since Hollywood has been thinking of returning the character to younger days in a reboot, they’ve been through a string of directors who have all dropped out.

Directors such as Fernando Meireilles, Anthony Peckham, Steven Zaillian and David Koep were all reported to be attached to the project at some time, but they all fell out eventually.

Well now it looks like a certain Kenneth Branagh may be serious about reviving the hero.

Paramount is currently in talks with the Thor director to make a deal to direct a new film, that would see Chris Pine portray a younger Jack Ryan as he fights terrorists after being framed for some sort of crime, fresh off a tour of duty from the Marines.

Focusing on a new Jack Ryan picture could also leave Branagh’s other pet project, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, on the backburner however, but he’d have to wait for Pine to wrap up his work on the JJ Abrams Star Trek sequel before he can commence filming.
