Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

And with the long weekend behind us, it’s only fitting that we bring you an super-sized Extras today. An Extra Extras, if you will. So sit back, kick your feet up and get ready for a whole lot of movie related randomness.

We kick off today’s Extras with this rather fantastic poster for Rian Johnson’s Looper, which sees Joseph Gordon-Levitt playing a younger Bruce Willis who, due to the wonders of wibbly wobbly timey wimey future stuff, has to kill his older self.

Atticus Ross, who co-composed the soundtracks for The Social Network and The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo with Nine Inch Nails’ frontman Trent Reznor, will be providing the score for Keanu Reeve’s samurai epic, 47 Ronin. And no, I can’t read the last part of that sentence with a straight face either.

Apparently Ralph Fiennes and Liam Neeson are suffering from a bit of an identity crisis. According to Neeson, he is often mistaken for his close friend and current Wrath of the Titans co-star.

“I get mistaken for my pal Ralph Fiennes. I’ve been congratulated for my Hamlet on Broadway 14 years ago. And he gets mistaken for me sometimes. We’d pass as brothers, you know.

Once, my wife (late actress Natasha Richardson) and I were walking through the Plaza Athenee, this beautiful hotel in Paris, and this elderly couple got up and said, ‘Excuse me, my husband and I are visiting from America’.

The lady grabbed one of these beautiful tea service menus and said, ‘Would you mind signing this for us?’ I said, ‘It would be my absolute pleasure’. And as I’m about to sign it, she said, ‘We absolutely adored The English Patient’.

So I signed it ‘With love, Ralph Fiennes’. I could not burst their bubble.”

Oh that Neeson, he’s such a sweet guy. You know, when he’s not busy dismantling human trafficking rings or punching feral wolves in the face.

I’m about to make somebody’s fantasy come true. (No, this does not involve those photos of my bachelor’s party.) Photographer Ryan Astamendi has created an awesome pictorial depicting real life versions of classic Disney film princesses. Oh and also a real life Jessica Rabbit. (See? Fantasy true.)

You can get the whole series over at i09.

If you think that Jar Jar Binks is the most embarrassing thing about Star Wars, you’re about to proven very, very wrong. Normally cool guy Harrison Ford (He was Han Solo AND Rick  Deckard!) tries his hand at new Star Wars Kinect dancing game, and it’s… Well, quite frankly, I have just have no words.

Did any of you notice the names of the dance moves? *facepalm*

Keeping it weird and Star Warsy around here, here’s the trailer for new children’s book, Darth Vader and Son. This version seems to be pretty light on the whole hand chopping and instead focuses on the difficulties that Vader faces eating ice-cream with 4 year-old Luke Skywalker. Yes, really.

That actually looks superb, and I’ll definitely be adding that to my list of books for my future kids (Psst. Don’t tell anybody, but the unborn kids thing is a ruse, it’s actually for me.)

Here’s a new photo of Byung-hun Lee as evil ninja Storm Shadow in G.I. Joe: Retaliation. Either he just stepped out of a shower or it’s pretty damn humid on that set. Or, you know, he just hugged Dwayne Johnson.

If you’re looking to give those stomach muscles a workout today, then look no further than Snide Remarks’ 2012 American Hunger Games which takes a look at what the future to-the-death sporting event would be like, if it were to use the current crop of American teenagers. Here’s a spoiler: It’s hilarious!

William Shatner wearing a Ghostbusters proton pack. That is all.

Lots of famous actors often have very humble beginnings in blink-and-you-miss-them roles. With that in mind, the guys over at FlavorWire have put together this great little clip showing the debut of some of Hollywood’s most famous faces. Just a bit of a NSFW warning for some strong language close to the end.

Am I the only one creeped out by Jack Black’s tiny head?

BadAssDigest is of the opinion that Chris Klein is the worst actor of his generation, and having brain hemorrhaged my way through Street Fighter: Legend of Chun Li, I’m finding it incredibly difficult to disagree with them.

Principle photography has just wrapped on the as-yet unnamed Riddick sequel, and in celebration writer/director David Twohy shared this on-set pic showcasing the film’s mercenaries. But alas, no Richard B. Riddick himself.

There’s a new (another!) TV spot for The Avengers and this time – in case you missed the (and this is just a rough estimate) 143 other trailers and close to 10, 000 pics released –  they will now tell you exactly who is in the super team:

The Totall Recall trailer has logged a whopping 10.8 million views in 48 hours. Now to some that might seem impressive, but personally I’m not happy about this at all. No, indeed I am not. Harumph! Because you see this would imply that the film’s absurd marketing tactic of having a 30 second trailer for the full trailer was actually a success, and quite frankly, I am not sure I want to live in a world where such insanity abides.

Speaking of Total Recall, here’s a new image which shows Colin Farell protecting Jessica Biel by firing a gun at what I am assuming – based on all the bullet holes in the wall around him – are very heavily armed but very poorly trained gunmen. Also, how damn big is that muzzle flash? Is that a handgun or a portable Kamehameha thrower?

In a surreal case of motherf$%#ing life imitating motherf$%#ing art, an Australian pilot had to perform an emergency landing after discovering that he had snake(s) on a plane:

You have to check out this hand-drawn stop motion rendition of Ernest Hemingway’s famous short story, The Old Man and The Sea. It comes courtesy of German Artist Marcel Schindler (no relation) and is simply amazing.

And because I know somebody is going to ask about it, the really catchy song is “Sail” by AwolNation.

Las Vegas is a town not exactly known for small gestures. Pretty much everything built around there is wall to wall grandiose, but I have a feeling that this one would have boldly gone where no man has gone before: Gary Goddard, head of the Goddard Group, posted the story online (via TrekMovie) that in 1992, his company nearly won a downtown Las Vegas redevelopment deal to build a full scale USS Enterprise, decked out with restaurants, rides and live entertainment.

They had everything in place and was ready to go, but was stopped dead in their tracks by a single small minded CEO, as Paramount head Stanley Jaffe was afraid to take the risk on the endeavour. You can read the whole tragic tale over at the Goddard Group blog, complete with concept art and promo images, but a fair warning: your geeky rage may blaze unbridled when you realize how close the world got to getting this incredible attraction.

James Cameron’s Titanic has recently been re-released in cinemas (again!), this time making the jump to the 3rd dimension. But what could the film have been like if Cameron had decided to let current boxoffice kings Michael Bay, JJ Abrams and George Lucas make some changes to it? Personally, I think it would be a hell of a lot better!

Phew! I don’t know about you guys, but all that randomness has left me kaput. I am in fact, feeling rather sleepy all of a sudden. I think it’s time retire to bed…. but not before having one more quick look at those real life Disney princesses. You know… For science!
