Darren Aronofsky shops around a new George Washington movie

Forget about that other president, what with his emancipation powers and axe-fu, the real deal is apparently the first head of state himself, George Washington!

Darren “Noah is actually a real life biopic of Russel Crowe” Aronofsky is currently shopping around a treatment for a George Washington film, only this one is going to be less “Steve Jobs cheesy inspiring”, and more “Clint Eastwood Unforgiven” instead. The project is currently going under the name of The General, which Aronosky plans to produce and write. Paramount is looking keen to buy the pitch so far, and with writing from Adam Cooper and Bill Collage, it looks like Aronofsky’s production house Protozoa Pictures will be heading into old country soon.

Variety has reported that current story specifics are being kept under strict guard, but that The General won’t be a regular biopic. It’s currently got a description of an “Unforgiven-like tale”, which means that we’re going to most likely see more gritty battlefields, and less moral quandaries about chopped cherry trees.

It’s nice to see the debut American president get the action film that he deserves, especially when I’ve been aching for some kind of spiritual sequel to the Patriot to make some sort of an appearance.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to go pitch my film idea about a John Adams film, where he awakens in the future to fight crime with duelling laser-pistols and a titanium cane of jiu-jutsu justice.
