Terry Gilliam and Christoph Waltz have a ZERO THEOREM to figure out

Terry Gilliam returning to his roots filming anti-authoritarian films starring a loveable everyman, a role which Christoph Waltz will be lending his incredible talents towards portraying?

Pinch me, I must be dreaming! Yep, that’s exactly what’s going on, as the former Python returns to the screen once again, to direct his latest film, Zero Theorem.

Gilliam has been working on the film for three years now, quietly developing it. Billy Bob Thornton was originally attached to star in it, but Waltz will instead be snagging the lead role.

And from the sounds of it, this sounds like some signature Gilliam kookiness, along the lines of Brazil and Tideland. Written by Pat Rushin, Zero Theorem will star Waltz as a genius, yet mental computer expert by the name of Qohen Leth, who is going through a mid-life crisis, while working away for a sinsiter authority known only as the “Management”.

Leth has isolated himself as much as possible from the Management and their intrusive “mancams”, until a surprise visit from a friend gives him access to the idea of virtual sex.

Things go pear-shaped however, when the son of the Management, Bob, drops in and begs Leth to allow him to help him out on secret Zero Theorem  theory, a project that is attempting to find a formula for the purpose of existence itself. But does Bob have less than altruistic intentions for the Zero Theorem, once it is complete?

Okay, that’s enough text-based hallucinogenic for one day. Unlike that other cursed production of his starring Don Quixote, Zero Theorem has a much more stable working schedule, as Gilliam will begin shooting in October, thanks to his several years of pre-production work. And it sounds like it’s going to be one hell of a mind-bender when it’s done.

I wonder if Michael Palin will pop up in another scarily sinister role?
