The tributes are getting along swimmingly in these new on-set images for THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE

I would just like to categorically state that I read and enjoyed most of the Hunger Games books, thought the first film was a great adaptation and am eager to see how new director Francis Lawrence has interpreted Suzanne Collin’s second novel, after the departure of original director Gary Ross.

That’s the reason why I’m posting this new series of on-set pics, showing off Katniss and friends (including our first looks at Sam Claifin as Finnick O’Dair and Lynn Cohen as Mags) cavorting in the water. Not because Jennifer Lawrence fills out a wetsuit in all the right places. Though it certainly doesn’t hurt.

This might be the slightest bit spoilery but the 75th Hunger Games, the focal point of this chapter in the story, takes place in a jungle that also houses a salt water lake. It’s almost certain that these scenes, currently being shot in Hawaii, will be for that portion of the story. As mentioned before, it also gives our first, very look at Finnick (Sam Claifin), a previous tournament victor forced to a be a tribute again like Katniss and Peeta, and Lynn Cohen as Mags, Finnick’s 80-year old mentor. Yes, that is not a little wild haired girl with a trident in her hand, but rather an elderly Broadway veteran.

And just in case you forgot why octogenarians would want to pretend at playing Neptune, here’s the film’s official synopsis:

THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) – a competition that could change Panem forever.
