The Terernce Malick resurgence continues! After directing only four films between 1973 and 2005, the highly reclusive auteur suddenly found some vigour in his twilight years, and has been churning out the movies. Well, I call them movies, just for ease of reference, but they’re really visually expressed slices of emotion.

Now after Tree of Life enchanted us wowed us mystified us frustrated us did something to us, he’s back to do it again with To The Wonder.

“To the Wonder” tells the story of Marina (Kurylenko) and Neil (Affleck), who meet in France and move to Oklahoma to start a life together, where problems soon arise. While Marina makes the acquaintance of a priest and fellow exile (Bardem), who is struggling with his vocation, Neil renews a relationship with a childhood sweetheart, Jane (McAdams). Bold and lyrical, the film is a moving, gorgeously shot exploration of love in its many forms.

If the fact that that trailer played out more like an extra long fragrance ad wasn’t a dead giveaway, then I can tell you that this will probably not be the typical schmaltzy romantic love stories that you may have become accustomed to.

The film played earlier in the year at all the big festivals where response was mixed, with some loving it’s sumptuousness and others finding it too pretentious. Which is all pretty much par for the course with a Terrence Malick movie film thing.

Malick is currently shooting both Knight of Cups and Voyage of Time, as well as starting work on another untitled project, all of which we really have no idea what they’re about, and chances are we still won’t even after watching them.
