Let’s be honest, if you’re going to adapt a tale that has been spun off into various works of fiction across multiple media, then you’re going to need a fresh gimmick. And much like other iconic stories such as Treasure Island, Moby Dick and A Christmas Carol, Warner Bros is taking the high road with this specific adaptation.
Like, really high. All the way into space.
Warner Bros is going to give the Greek epic a sci-fi makeover, and to do so, they’ve hired James “Devils at Play” DiLapo to pen a script. Seen as a possible franchise starter, the original tale saw the greek warrior Homer doh Odysseus battling his way through a pantheon of pissed off deities, witches, hell and crossing the River Styx itself.
Not that one.
But The Oddsey is actually part deux of the story, as the first installment can actually be found in Troy, which starred Brad Pitt as Achilles and Orlando Bloom as Wimpy McWimpface Wimperton the third (Citation needed). While Troy had a distinct lack of warp drives and lasers, it’s also an indicator towards the scope of the story itself, as Odysseus and his men struggle to escape from the aftermath of the war and all the perils in front of them.
Ancient epics are still decent cinema fodder these days, and even though it wasn’t exactly a 2012 highlight, films like Wrath of the Titans managed to make some cash. Now get Liam Neeson into some armour as Space-Zeus, and we might indeed have something that lives up to the word epic.

Yup… Homer was the author… methinks Darryn has him confused with that Simpson fellow… Lets hope the freakin studio’s dont excercise poetic license and give it a Hollywood feel. Troy sucked!!

…and it also deprived the world of “Archilles’ Heel” No-one will know the relationship between Mistletoe and Archilles… Sickening!
I wonder… how will they fit Hades, Sirens, Clashing Rocks, Cyclops etc in Space…

Well,many believe he was the author (and there is plenty evidence to support, and a little to disprove) but to me he defo is. If the Simpsons is able to have spider pigs, then a future Odyssey can have surely! I mean,Ody’s men turning into spider pigs, damn! that would rule!
