The first cut of the EVIL DEAD may be a tad too violent

There’s no denying that the upcoming remake of the Evil Dead looks like a promotional video for violence porn. Demonic possessions, tree rape and a tongue modification that would make anyone queasy seem to be the mere tip of the iceberg for the Fede Alvarez directed flick, if the red band trailer is any indication as to what kind of content viewers can expect.

And according to Alvarez, he’s just submitted his first cut of the film to the MPAA, the American version of our FPB, technically speaking. And his first cut may be too violent for the staff over there, as the Evil Dead currently has a high rating of NC 17 from them. Time to recut the movie to make it a little less gory then.

According to Alvarez, he’ll have to take his reboot back into the editing suites, after he tweeted the following;

But don’t fret, because re-editing the film to get a more audience-accessible cut of R doesn’t mean that Alavrez will have to throw in some unicorns and rainbows with all those hand amputations. It’s a common idea in Hollywood, to submit something that is far more over the top than necessary to the MPAA, so that the ideal R version can be resubmitted instead. Something which Alvarez confirmed in a follow up tweet;

The film is out in April, and judging by that red band trailer, it looks, gory, twisted and creepy as hell. In other words, I’m going to be eating my earlier critical words from last year, regarding this remake. And it’ll most likely be done with an 18 age restriction on our side.

      No children under 17. It’s kind of…weird.

        I thought it meant that, then I thought ‘is a 16 year old, a children?’ and came up blank. The things I was doing at 16 make me shudder, and today it’s hot in CT…
