It seems like lately the small screen is becoming the big screen, as American cable network HBO has been pulling in the A-list movie talent for their own productions. Last year saw Julianne Moore, Woody Harrelson and Ed Harris in Ed Roach’s Sara Palin pic, Game Change, and soon it will be Michael Douglas and Matt Damon glamming it up for director Steven Soderbergh in his Liberace biopic, Behind the Candelabra.
But I have a feeling the the small screen may just be a little bit too small for the David Mamet written and directed true life drama Phil Spector. I mean, not only does Al Pacino’s performance look especially shouty, but it looks like his co-star, his hair, is going to be stealing every scene it’s in!
A drama centered on the relationship between Phil Spector and defense attorney Linda Kenney Baden while the music business legend was on trial for the murder of Lana Clarkson
Jokes aside about Spector’s famed hair – that looks like it needs to combed with a pitch fork and a blow torch – this still looks like it could be compelling stuff. Pacino seems to be digging his thespian teeth into this and chewing scenery like only he can, while the ever reliable Helen Mirren is… well, reliable.
Phil Spector will be debuting on HBO on March 24, 2013.
