February hasn’t exactly been the greatest of months when it comes to new releases. Big budget flicks are usually reserved for the April to July window, and the Oscars have been hogging all the glory with zingers about Chris Brown and Ben Affleck’s Argo eff yourself. So in short, it was a quiet weekend. Here’s a look at how everyone did at the North American box office.

Riding on that silent weekend was Identity Thief, as the Jason Bateman and Melissa McCarthy comedy vehicle took advantage of the Oscar distraction to sneak back into first place. Dwayne Johnson debuted in second place with a film where for once, he wasn’t the badass as Snitch took in a decent haul of $13 million, proving that not all tough guy films were built with automatic fail as the recent trend has shown.

A good day to Die Hard took a hell of a knock over the weekend, dropping from first to fifth. Beautiful Creatures has been the biggest loser so far though, as the sixth place opening left this film in tenth after a mere two weeks at the cinemas. Right now, Beautiful creatures is a box office bomb, as the $60 million production has just managed to scrape in over $21 million in global ticket sales. Here’s what everyone else made while the Oscars was on;

  • Identity Thief – $14 Million
  • Snitch – $13 Million
  • Escape from Planet Earth – $11 Million
  • Safe Haven – $10.6 Million
  • A good day to Die Hard – $10 Million
  • Dark Skies – $8.8 Million
  • Silver Linings Playbook – $6.6 Million
  • Warm bodies – $4.7 Million
  • Side Effects – $3.5 Million
  • Beautiful creatures – $3.4 Million
