Even though it may have been completely bananas, I kinda dug 2004 ‘s The Chronicles of Riddick. It was a massive departure from 2000’s Pitch Black, which had a tighter and more focused storyline of survival in comparison. For the third Riddick flick though? It looks like director David Twohy is combining the two, into one big film that once again stars Vin Diesel as the most dangerous man in the universe.

While the first half of the trailer doesn’t show anything new, it’s the addition of the creatures that happen to be stalking Riddick and several bounty hunters that are really revealed here. Apparently, Riddick is in future-Australia, judging by the sheer level of nightmare fuel around him, and he’ll need to use all his skill in order to make it through the night.

The infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he’s encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty.

The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal. With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won’t leave the planet without Riddick’s head as their trophy.

And here’s that new poster I mentioned, fresh from the killing fields of Comic Con and Facebook! Hey, it’s not my fault that they gave a set of rare Pokemon holo chase cards such a big discount. So much blood, so much blood…

What I keep wondering is if this is the same planet as Pitch Black?

I also got that feeling, but I suspect it’s a different place. They are just reworking the same theme to a degree, which is not a bad move. It worked for Indy, so it ought to do the same for Riddick.

Thought the same at first, but monsters appear to be slightly different though.

That’s also my conclusion. Also, this planet looks like it might have some water.
