There are many things get better with age: wine, cheese………. leftover braai?? Okay, so there aren’t actually that many things that get better with age. But screen veterans Woody Allen and John Turturro would have us believe that you can add one more thing to that short list: Male prostitution.

And they make this point, to hilarious effect in Fading Gigolo, a new comedy which sees Turturro write, direct and star as a homely florist turned reluctant male escort thanks to the world’s most unlikely pimp: Woody Allen.

Fioravante (Turturro) decides to become a professional Don Juan as a way of making money to help his cash-strapped friend, Murray (Woody Allen). With Murray acting as his “manager,” the duo quickly finds themselves caught up in the crosscurrents of love and money.

Despite the fact that he keeps pumping out movies far more frequently than other filmmakers a third of his 78 years of age, this is the first time in 8 years that we’ve seen Woody Allen step out in front of the camera again, and only the second time he’s done so in a movie that he didn’t direct. That last bit is very important though, as judging from this trailer and despite the fact that this Turturro’s brainchild, Fading Gigolo looks to be exactly the type of whimsical comedy that Allen makes so well. And that is definitely not a bad thing.

Also, the world can never have enough Sofia Vergara.

Fading Gigolo co-stars the aforementioned Sofia Vergara, Sharon Stone, Vanessa Paradis and Liev Schrieber and is set for a limited release on April 18, 2014.
