If you had to compile a list of the all-time greatest comic book villains, Doctor Doom would most likely be number one. If you disagree with me on that, then I’m going to launch you and your home into outer space. A new Fantastic Four film is on the way, and with it, a new take on the good Doctor. Here’s what he looks like.
Update: We’ve been Lawyered by Fox, who sent us a letter telling us that we can’t show off the pics of Doc Doom. Which sucks, and reminds us that you really shouldn’t go to to another website like this one to see what the Latverian monarch looks like. No really, don’t do it. You’ll make Fox and the MPAA sad.
Er, okay then. While the suit does have several iconic elements, it also looks like actor Toby Kebbell has placed inside a bag of flaming dog crap and stomped on repeatedly. To be fair though, there’s no context as to when this scene slots into the movie, or if this is even the final look of Kebbell as the arch villain of the Fantastic Four.
But it just looks…weird. The mask doesn’t look menacing at all, the organic metallic bodysuit looks flimsy and the tattered hood/cape combo is the only positive thing that I can find here. Say what you will about the Tim Story directed Fantastic Four movies, but those two films most definitely nailed the look of the doctor rather well. Examples:
Still, I want to give the man in the iron mask, the benefit of the doubt at elast. Maybe he can pull this look off and make it menacing. Kebbell won’t be the only villain on set, as he’ll be joined by Tim Blake Nelson’s Mole Man as well when they go up against the quartet of Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Jamie Bell and Michael B. Jordan.
Fantastic Four arrives on June 19, 2015. It already has a sequel in the works, for July 14 2017. Josh Trank directs.
