Extras-750-final

Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

  • For a guy that used to run weepy teen drama Dawson’s Creek, Greg Berlanti sure is getting into this whole superhero thing. With Arrow a huge success, and the spinoff The Flash already picking up speed, Berlanti is looking go three for three and is currently busy developing a Supergirl TV series. The still unnamed show is being descibed as being “a new interpretation of the Supergirl character and her story”, meaning that this may not be the adventures of Superman’s younger cousin, Kara Zor-El, that we would be seeing (especially since Warner Bros are keeping their TV and movie universes separate). Berlanti is still looking to shop this pitch around to studios.
  • With post-apocalyptic YA movies getting more and more far fetched with their concepts about factions and groups and girls who are different but really aren’t once you think about it, it’s only a matter of time before somebody makes a movie about a future in which people’s love for different types of junk food establishes their place in society –  all except for one different girl who likes eating healthy. Oh wait, Funny or Die has already made that comedy sketch with Chloe Moretz, and its called Snackopalypse!

  • It’s De Niro vs a Guy Who Pretended To Be One Of De Niro’s Characters In A Recent Comedy! Coming off his hilarious performance – including a Travis Bickel impersonation – in hit R-Rated comedy Bad Neighbours, Zac Efron will be joining forces with Robert De Niro himself in Dirty GrandpaThe (also) R-Rated comedy, written and directed by Dan Mazer (Da Ali G Show, Borat), follows “an uptight guy (Efron) who right before his wedding is tricked into driving his vulgar former Army general grandfather (De Niro) to Florida for spring break”.

  • And we interrupt this programme to bring you this ridiculous rumour: Benedict Cumberbatch is apparently being considered for both the role of a major villain in Batman v Superman or possibly playing Martian Manhunter in the Justice League followup. Let us entertain this baseless rumour for a bit: In the case of the former, with principal production already underway for quite some now again, that would imply to me that the role would be voicing/mo-capping some CG character that would just pop up for a cameo a la Josh Brolin’s Thanos in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. As for the latter rumour, he would have to klap gym stukkend, boet, but with enough horse steroids injected into his system, he could be a believable Martian Manhunter.
  • I think we can all agree that Lifetime’s Brittany Murphy Story looks like sensationalist trash, but that doesn’t mean we have to get trashy about it ourselves. Angelo Bertolotti, estranged father of the late starlet and kind of a nutcase, has gone from his legitimate gripe with Lifetime for not consulting Murphy’s family at all before making the movie, to cyber-bullying Amanda Fuller, the young actress who portrays Murphy in the biopic (and who only had two days to prepare for the role). He’s taken to Twitter to call her too fat for the role, a floozy, and all other kinds of schoolyard names. Stay classy, man.
  • Poster of the day: The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1

  • Veteran action hero and World Booty Shaking champion for 1989 Jean Claude Van Damme may be teaming up with his son Kris for a new “emotional MMA” film titled The Tower, which could see father and son face each other in combat. In development for years now, the movie was originally planned as a Game of Death-type action flick with JCVD scaling a building and fighting a new enemy on each floor. But apparently, according to Van Damme himself,  the movie has now morphed to become “the story of a man who loses the feeling of fear, a man who will go from a new family as an adopted war machine and will have to face the ground door of Las Vegas (“Stage of the Warriors”), which will be a tournament to decide who will be the strongest fighter on earth!”
  • There are so many different doctors in pop culture that knowing which one to trust can be the difference between life and him eating your liver with a nice chianti – FFGHHFFHHHFGHHFHHH. Luckily, things are made a lot easier thanks to this handy chart.

  • When it comes to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, everybody knows who the real star is, and no his name doesn’t rhyme with Bobbit Clowny Moon-ya. Tom Hiddleston’ Loki was easily the breakout star of Thor. He was so good that he was brought back as the Avengers’ main villain, and again in Thor: The Dark World which set him up for even bigger things. His character has easily been the most well realized and developed out of any of Marvel’s onscreen characters. Which is why this fan-edit, titled Loki: Brother of Thor is so awesome.

Created by splicing together all his scenes from all the Marvel movies as well as deleted scenes found only on the Blu Ray releases, and even some homemade montages and animatics, it tells the complete story of Loki as one feature film.
