For somebody who started her career doing breakdance moves behind the Wayans brothers while they cracked jokes with Jim Carrey, Jennifer Lopez has certainly done well for herself. Chart topping singer, reality TV star, Best Double Sided Tape Application World Champion for 2000, and even a reasonably successful actress. I say reasonably, because while a number of her movies have certainly moved enough dollars at the box office, they have definitely never been particularly good cinema.

And that doesn’t look to be changing – in fact, it looks to be getting worse – with The Boy Next Door, a new R-Rated thriller from director Rob Cohen (xXx, The Fast and Furious, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor), a helmer who also seems to have commercial success despite mostly making movies that are quite middle of the road (although his last effort, Alex Cross, was definitely off the road and lying in the ditch covered in filth and detritus).

The straight-to-Friday-night-on-eTV-looking flick makes good use of the fact that the beautiful 45-year old actress seems to have discovered the fountain of youth, but that’s unfortunately about the last time I can probably use the word “good” about it again. See for yourself with this new trailer.

Shortly after her divorce, a woman falls for handsome younger man who just moved in across the street, though their torrid affair that takes an obsessive, dangerous turn.

The Boy Next Door also stars Ryan Guzman, John Corbett and Kristin Chenoweth. It moves in across the street on January 23, 2014.

  1. For the “love” of a good movie! Yes I’m referring to ‘The
Boy Next Door’. Before I proceed, I think the name of the movie is a flaw
choice; “Obsessive Nature” could probably have been fitting. I rate the movie a
‘6 out of 10’ as it has the perfect thriller setting. Jennifer Lopez – need I say
more? Her acting is always on point and engaging! The movie is really one to
stay focused on. Good actors, good story line (Cliché) and good ending. The
only error I picked up is the missing piece of puzzle when Jennifer leaves the restaurant
(Not looking drunk at all or emotionally vulnerable) and wakes up the next
    morning in the neighbor’s house.
