While Emma Watson will probably always be associated first with the Harry Potter movies, the talented young actress – much like her wizardly co-star Daniel Radcliffe – has been doing quite well for herself in her post-Hogwarts muggle career. But I’m betting that her character in Regression wishes she could “wingardium leviosa” herself right out of this sticky mess.
The second English language feature film from Oscar winning Spanish writer/director Alejandro Amenábar (The Others, The Sea Inside), Regression is a new psychological thriller that also stars the ever reliable Ethan Hawke and David Thewliss and looks to be a twisty, turny tale of horrific atmosphere and creepy suspense. At least that’s according to the first trailer for the flick which popped up online yesterday, and has now also popped onto my “will definitely check this one out” list for the year.
Minnesota, 1990. Detective Bruce Kenner (Ethan Hawke) investigates the case of young Angela (Emma Watson), who accuses her father, John Gray (David Dencik), of an unspeakable crime. When John unexpectedly and without recollection admits guilt, renowned psychologist Dr. Raines (David Thewlis) is brought in to help him relive his memories and what they discover unmasks a horrifying nationwide mystery.
Regression is scheduled for release on August 28, 2015.

That actually looks really good. Looking forward to checking it out when it gets here – there really is a moratorium on good thrillers / horrors nowadays.

I’m getting a such a strong Angel Heart vibe from this trailer.
