Can you smeeeeeeelhlhlhlhlhllll what The Rock is destroying?! Fresh from trying to survive a whole city falling down on him in San Andreas, it appears that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is next looking to knock down some cities of his own with some retro video game action.
Deadline are reporting that Johnson has signed on to star in and produce an adaptation of 80’s Midway arcade video game Rampage which saw players taking on the roles of a King Kong-like giant gorilla, a Godzilla-like giant lizard and a giant werewolf monster – who were actually transformed humans respectively named George, Lizzie and Ralph – and then trying to do more damage to a city before the other players. That’s it. That’s the full extent of the game. Hey, if they can make a movie about Battleship…
Details of the script from Non-Stop screenwriter Ryan Engle are being kept under wraps, but Deadline hypothesizes that we could see a trio of monsters rampaging across North America with Johnson and monstrous muscles trying to stop them. So like Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla, only with more People’s Eyebrow. Yeah, I guess I can dig it.
There’s no director attached to the project yet, but Johnson will be reteaming with New Line and his San Andreas producer Beau Flynn for Rampage which is expected to start production mid-2016, after Johnson wraps up shooting his scenes on the upcoming Fast & Furious 8.
