Let’s be honest: Movies based on video games suck. As a fan of video games, this makes me very angry. Not angry enough to slingshot myself at some green pigs though, which is what the fowl of addictive smash hit video game Angry Birds have been doing for years now. But why? No, not “why do video games suck?”, as that list is far too long to mention, but rather “Why are these birds so damn angry?”

Well that’s the question that a new animated feature film is going to attempt to answer and it’s roped in the voice talents of a quartet of funny men in Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Danny McBride and Bill Hader to do just that. The first trailer for The Angry Birds Movie has now dropped and we can now get a glimpse of exactly what has been irking these birds. Check it out below.

The movie takes us to an island populated entirely by happy, flightless birds – or almost entirely. In this paradise, Red (Jason Sudeikis – We’re the Millers, Horrible Bosses), a bird with a temper problem, speedy Chuck (Josh Gad in his first animated role since Frozen), and the volatile Bomb (Danny McBride – This is the End, Eastbound and Down) have always been outsiders. But when the island is visited by mysterious green piggies, it’s up to these unlikely outcasts to figure out what the pigs are up to.

Wow. That was… not funny at all. I mean, I didn’t really have much hope for this movie, but with the caliber of talent attached it, I really expected better. Ah well.

The Angry Birds Movie also features the voice talents of Maya Rudolph, Kate McKinnon, Tony Hale, Keegan-Michael Key, and Peter Dinklage. It opens internationally on May 20, 2016. Clay Kaytis and Fergal Reilly directs.
