Midweek Movie Mouth-off: the scariest single scene in any movie

Yay, more spooky topics for October! There’s usually a lot of focus on horror movies in general, as we tend to recommend movies as a whole. But what about single scenes? Let’s get really specific and talk about that one scene that scared the living daylights out of you. And don’t worry, next week we’ll be back to talking about horror movies in general, stay tuned!

For me, it was a scene from The Ring. If you haven’t seen it, I’d advise you go watch it before reading this, there’s obviously a spoiler warning on the rest of this paragraph. If you have seen it: granted, that movie had an overabundance of scary moments, from the actual tape (which gave me nightmares), to when Samara first comes out of the TV (which also gave me nightmares), but the scene I’m going to go with is the infamous “closet scene”. It’s such an innocuous scene, just two people talking, then out of freaking nowhere it cuts to something seriously unexpected, then back again like nothing happened. Yes it’s a jump scare, and I’ll admit it’s a cheap tactic to scare you compared to a proper slow build-up of tension and dread, but wow was it effective!

Heck, building on last week’s topic, even non-horror movies have some damn terrifying moments. Take Pinocchio for example – damn, Disney, what was up with that?

Over to you: which moment from a movie gave you the biggest scare?

The Grudge….shite movie, but that scene in the attic. I knew it was coming .I knew when it was coming. I nearly wet my pants anyway.

We have an attic just like the one in the house and to this day i cant go in there without the mother of all poker faces.

Oooh The Grudge! Yeah that was a terrible movie but it also had its moments. For me the scariest scene in that was the shower scene, where she has that hand coming out of her head? Jeez that freaked me out. Legit I didn’t want to wash my hair for a while after that.

Wasn’t it in the Grudge where they had her crawling down the stair while making that horrible creaking sound? That was what came to my mind on today’s topic.

Yeees, that’s the one. My sister’s boyfriend at the time could imitate that noise perfectly and he used to do it just to freak me out. The number of times he almost got decked in the face…

I actually enjoyed the first one and I still need to watch the sequels.
