A JUMANJI remake on track for a Christmas 2016 release

Jumanji

I am not really too keen on seeing Jumanji get a reboot and still think that the 1995 original would hold its own with the younger generation today. Well too bad for me because the guys at Deadline have announced that new talent has been added to the project, pushing ahead to meet its Christmas 2016 deadline.

Scribe Scott Rosenberg (High Fidelity, Con Air) will rewrite the screenplay and executive producer Jeff Pinkner (Fringe) will come on board as a consultant. The pair, having most recently co-created NBC’s Zoo, will be putting their experience together to bring the animal kingdom to life onscreen once again with this reboot.

The reboot will go back to the original source material that the 1995 movie was based upon, re-adapting Chris Van Allsburg’s 1985 children’s book. Now if for whatever reason you have never seen Jumanji before, the story revolves around a magical board game that causes the jungle plants and creatures from another world based on the game to invade a quiet American suburb.

The original movie had a magical cast in the late Robin Williams opposite Bonnie Hunt, Kirsten Dunst, Bradley Pierce, Jonathan Hyde, Bebe Neuwirth, David Alan Grier and Patricia Clarkson. Director Joe Johnston brought fantastic visuals to life on screen using special effects and animatronics that were pretty impressive at the time.

Joining the new team that will be Matt Tolmach and Bill Teitler, who will be producing the feature. Zach Helm (Stranger Than Fiction, Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium) has been approached to take on directorial duties but has since taken a pass, while there are no mentions yet as to who is being considered to star in the reboot.

The movie is setting up to face off against Tim Burton’s adaption of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children which will give it a good run for its money.

Now maybe I just feel it is too soon after the legend that is Robin Williams has passed for this reboot to be made or that I just feel no one else will be able to bring the movie justice the way that Williams did. Maybe it is just one of those ideas that frustrate me for lack of originality being shown with the endless list of reboots coming through Hollywood, but I would rather have left this one alone.

What do you think? Is a Jumanji reboot a terrible idea or will this be a great movie? Who should they consider to star in the reboot? Let us know what you think in the comment section.

Whatever you think, the Jumanji reboot is set for release on 25 December 2016.

The real question is: which child star do you want to see as a monkey boy.

I’m glad to see I’m not the only person here that thinks this is a horrible idea!

How do you reboot an awesome movie, made by a legendary comedian of this era(who has sadly passed away), without thinking to yourself – “what the fuck am I doing?”

Stay the f@#$ away from this movie! It’s awesome and needs to remain what it is – a classic and an original only! Remake my a$$…
