Ant-Man-Michael-Douglas-Hank-Pym-Set-Interview

Ant-Man was a really fun movie and stands out from the rest of the action packed, slightly more serious tones laid out in the rest of Marvels movies released over the last couple of years, well that and Guardians Of The Galaxy.

The one person that didn’t get to have that much fun in Ant Man however was Michael Douglas, who played ex-superhero turned surly scientist Hank Pym. Douglas was great in the movie though and left tons of viewers keen to see the seasoned thespian return to the role in future additions to the Marvel collection.

There was a wrinkle though: Douglas had not signed the what-is-now-standard Marvel contract that ties actors to long-term movie deals as the comic book film studio cashes in on sequels for their super popular franchises. He was pretty excited for more though, especially if things got weird, as he told /Film:

I’m not signed up to anything more. I’ve learned a whole lot and would look forward to more if it comes my way but if not I’ve enjoyed the experience. Now that I understand a bit more about Hank Pym too. I think in this one I had to carry a lot of plot and exposition. In the next one I hope things get a little more bizarre… the Quantum Realm!

But it looks like the Basic Instinct star is actually making a return as the original Ant-Man and elaborates on how much he enjoyed playing the role in an interview with Collider recently.

I just got a call recently – they want to negotiate for a sequel and I thought “That’s great!” Hopefully, I won’t have to carry quite as much expositional dialogue as the first one but I had a wonderful time doing it. Just a great, great time. The cast was fantastic. Paul, Evangeline, Michael Pena – I’m sure he’ll be back. If they can scrape Corey Stoll off the wall, I’m sure they’ll want him too – he’s such a good villain. And [director Peyton Reed] too. It was a lovely experience, so you know, I welcome it. I chuckle about being involved with a movie that already has a release date in 2018. Ya know, it’s hard to conceive of that, but it’s all good, all the way around, it’s all good.

Now Douglas mentions the dialogue that he had to work with on the first Ant Man and for most of the movie we got to hear the unmistakable voice mentor and assist Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) get used to the role of miniature super hero. This played out really well through the movie and Douglas also had a few good scenes playing off the comedy brought to the story by Michael Pena.

I think he can bring a lot more to the story and it will be interesting to see how director Peyton Reed will make use of the veteran going forward. Who knows, maybe we will see him make a cameo on an episode of Marvels Agents of Shield.

Ant Man 2 or Ant-Man and the Wasp, as it’s currently being titled, is slated to be released on July 6th, 2018.
