You would think actors of a certain age and past experience in the action genre would know that very few get to reinvent their careers with yet another action movie. Of course there are exceptions. Stallone, Schwarzenegger, Keanue Reeves. Wait, what? Yes. You heard me. I mention the latter here as I can only assume that once-hot-stuff John Travolta is trying to do the same thing in his latest movie I Am Wick Wrath, even down to the cliched tattoos no one expected or cared to seeGrasping at every action trope in the book the movie looks nothing less than the most basic of revenge stories. I don’t know, perhaps his Scientology is getting in the way of any logical thinking, much like how a box of marshmallows hampers Trevor’s ability to do anything but foam at the mouth. This trailer, released via ComingSoon, has some nice fight elements in it though, and watching Christopher Meloni kick ass is a good thing any day. Here’s what the ‘story’ is about:

Unemployed engineer Stanley Hill (Travolta) witnesses the brutal murder of his wife Vivian (Rebecca De Mornay, TV’s Jessica Jones) who was attacked by thugs in a parking garage. When Detective Gibson (Sam Trammell, True Blood) and other corrupt police officers are unable and unwilling to bring the killers to justice, Stanley turns to his old friend Dennis (Christopher Meloni, Man of Steel, TVs Law & Order) and decides to take matters into his own hands. It is only then that Stanley and Dennis are found to have a mysterious past that, until now, they kept very well hidden.

As they wreak their revenge, those involved in the cover up realize that Stanley and Dennis are more dangerous than they could have ever imagined…

And here is the trailer:

Shakespeare? Brecht? You got nothing on that! I honestly wonder what people are doing when they throw millions of dollars at something like this but then remember I thought the same thing about John Wick. The difference is John Wick wasn’t doing a White House Down to Olympus has Fallen which allowed it plenty of movement to have fun with going big without a comparison burden. I am Wrath is directed by Chuck Russell who did The Mask and The Scorpion King so this could be a big hit or miss, though I am inclined to think it’ll be a strike three you’re out!

I am Wrath also stars Rebecca De Mornay, Amanda Schull, Sam Trammell, and Luis Da Silva Jr. It lands on VOD on 15 April which is before its theatre release on 13 May. That says it all.
