Divine candy crush

The news about Activision Blizzard buying King for many billions of dollars piqued the attention of a whole range of media. When deals that big go through, it’s something worth talking about, it seems. Stephen Colbert did a hilarious segment about it on his show, culminating in a scene with Liam Neeson that is everything you would want it to be.

From the CoD references, to the meta jokes about Candy Crush, this whole clip makes me giggle:

The writing team on that show is absolutely excellent. Each reference is so well done, and I’m glad they managed to cast Liam Neeson, although it probably would have been more appropriate to cast Sean Bean in this case. Oh sorry, that might be a spoiler for those who haven’t watched it yet.

It does highlight some interesting new film ideas that the Activision Blizzard studio could make. Beyond the obvious Call of Duty movie, they could easily make a Destiny film considering that half the players don’t really know the story or lore of the game. Or, they could explain what happened in between Candy Crush Saga and Candy Crush Soda Saga – was it just about washing down all those sugary treats with a sugary beverage, or was something more sinister going on? And when will we get Cavity Crush Saga?

Is anyone still actually playing Candy Crush, or have most people moved on by now? I know King’s player base for the game has been shrinking, I’m curious what the new addiction is, though. Not that I will fall for it this time.

What made me really giggle was everyone calling it “Call of Doody”. I love accents.
