Avatar 2 has been delayed… Before it even began

As talented a director as James Cameron is, he has never been one to hold to schedules easily. And now, Avatar 2 may be delayed before any production has even started. Cameron originally announced that the sequel to his 2009 sci fi megahit would be out in December 2013, with a third film being shot back to back and released the following year.

Well 2013 is around the corner, and production is yet to start.  Bleeding Cool is reporting that producer John Landau – while in London to promote Titanic 3D – has now revealed that Avatar 2 is still “four years away”.

That would mean that we would only be returning to the land of the giant tribal Smurfs in 2016 again, followed with Avatar 3 in 2017, although there has been speculation that a December 2015 release date might be possible as well.

Landau also went on to say “Avatar 2 is going to showcase advanced technology, from the 3D camera system used to the CG and performance capture, but also in terms of a higher framerate. This is the new frontier that Cameron and I are most interested in pushing.”

I hope that new frontier also has place for a script that is not all cliches.

We’ll bring you more news, as soon as we hear it.

I can’t really understand the delay to be honest, Pocahontas 2 has been out for ages so can’t someone else just shoehorn that into the alien world instead?

fine by me, never thought the first was that good to begin with. Apart from teh first film that did 3d well, the story and characters itself was pretty meh.
