greg_berlanti_little_shop_of_horrors_splitI’m not a big fan of musicals, but there was something about the 1986 adaptation of the hit musical Little Shop of Horrors that I was really drawn to. Perhaps it was the great comedic casting in Rick Morasnis and Steve Martin, but I also think it was the ludicrous of it all at how a story that really should be a horror, actually worked as a musical and produced songs that stuck in your head. Kind of like The Rocky Horror Picture Show, it’s one of those Broadway successes that’s appeal is difficult to explain.

The musical itself was actually based off the horror movie Little Shop released in 1960 that starred Jack Nicholson, which was a genuine horror film, but a story that really came into its own as a musical. The story tells of a nerdy florist who comes across a plant that, due to an eclipse, now requires a steady supply of human meat. It doesn’t sound like much, but when that plant talks, sings and begs Seymour for more, the end result is actually quite fun.

And Warner Bros is looking to do so man wallet eating of their own, by bring the story back to cinema screens.  And The Hollywood Reporter – eh, reports that they have signed up Greg Berlanti, the producer behind the CW DC Comic shows to direct the adaptation with La La Land producer Marc Platt coming on board to produce – and hopefully no doubt work some of the same magic into this film.

There is no deadline yet for this project, but with a production and director on board to work on the script by Matthew Robinson, we can only assume they will be looking to get started on production soon and we should hear more news on the project in the near future. It shouldn’t be long until Seymour needs to find more humans to feed his hungry plant before it eats him instead.

Oh my goodness! Greg should actually be helming the DC Universe, NOT THIS! Geoff Johns won’t fire Snyder and everything is just going to sh*t
