Pixar is no stranger to creating sequels based on their work, and with a Finding Dory Nemo 2 film on the way, their slate is pretty packed so far. But one film that is almost complete is Monsters University, the first prequel film from the studio.

Telling the tale of how Mike and Sully met, the film sees the return of of actors John Goodman and Billy Crystal to their beloved roles. Except there seems to be less love and more hazing, as Crystal explained in an interview.Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Crystal dropped a few details of the film, which sees the future tag team terror partners starting out as rivals, and not exactly on the best of terms with each other, as Crystal compared the new Monsters film to that cult eighties classic, Revenge of the Nerds:

[Mike and Sully] end up in the same fraternity where they have this scare competition — like Greek Games in college. They have to mobilize a group, sort of like Revenge of the Nerds-monsters, and get them ready to be scary.

Heck, the monsters in this film aren’t even at the right age to drink some beer, so don’t expect Sully to be running around smashing beer cans on his head and stealing panties, says Crystal:

They’re 17 and 18 years old in the script. My guy has a retainer, even.

Still, knowing how Pixar likes to reference classic films in their productions, in subtle manners, don’t be too surprised if a few other college film references work their way in. After all, wouldn’t it be great if the movie ended with an Animal House epilogue?

That, and I’d dig to see Sully shout “NNEEEEEERRRRRRDDDDSSSS!”. Monsters University is currently scheduled for release, next year in June.
