Merry Christmas, everybody! And there’s nothing that says yuletide cheer quite like watching people being grotesquely transformed by an extraterrestrial parasite or having their faces sucked off by a genatalia-shaped alien bioweapon! At least that’s what Ridley Scott must think, which is why the veteran director has released the first red-band trailer for his much anticipated Prometheus follow-up and the next chapter in the acclaimed Alien franchise, Alien: Covenant.

Check it out below!

Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created, with Alien: Covenant, a new chapter in his groundbreaking Alien franchise. The crew of the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world. When they uncover a threat beyond their imagination, they must attempt a harrowing escape.

Damn, that looks great. Appears that Scott is following through on his promise that this will be the horrific return to form for the franchise in the vein of the first film.

Alien: Covenant sees Prometheus‘s Michael Fassbender returning as the android David, but strangely without Noomi Rapace’s Elizabeth Shaw. The last we had seen the two of them together they were on their way to the Engineers’ home planet. Clearly something went wrong. At least David has a new crew to keep him company (until they die inevitable violent gory deaths), played by Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup, Danny McBride, Demián Bichir, Carmen Ejogo, Amy Seimetz, Jussie Smollett, Callie Hernandez, Nathaniel Dean, Alexander England, and Benjamin Rigby.

Alien: Covenant is scheduled for release on May 19, 2017.
