Seth MacFarlane is a busy dude right now. He’s got an Oscars gig coming up, more work on his Family Guy TV series, a sequel for Ted in the works and most likely some more Robot Chicken voice-over work. But after the Oscars and before all that other jazz, he’s going to be starting work on A million ways to die in the west.
The film is going to star MacFarlane as the lead character in this comedy western, but he’s going to need a love interest as well to slap his leather. And the lucky bastard has just gone and landed Charlize Theron for that role.
And she’s only playing 50% of the romantic interests in that film, according to THR. Jeez! MacFarlane may be starring, but he’s also pulling writing and directing duties on this project, which he says will be in the same mold as the cult classic Blazing Saddles. MacFarlane wants to start shooting in May, and he’s got a new synopsis for his film as well;
A Million Ways… is a Blazing Saddles-style comedy that follows a sheepish farmer who chickens out of a gunfight and sees his girlfriend leave him. When he meets the wife of a notorious outlaw who offers to teach him how to shoot, the farmer at first sees a chance to win back his love but slowly falls for the woman. Complications ensue when the outlaw returns and reclaims his woman.
That actually sounds like a solid plot. There’s going to be a ton of awkward comedy mixed in with that, but it sounds like something that happens to be right up MacFarlane’s alley.
