Michael Scofield has escaped many things. Prisons, shady government agents, online bullies (OK, that one was a little sad and infuriating). But in Fox’s upcoming event series revival of Prison Break, we’re going to find out how Michael Scofield managed to escape death! And it appears that he may have got the biggest help from a certain Scarlet Speedster.

Actor Wentworth Miller, who portrays Schofield, was joined by fellow returning cast members Dominic Purcell, Sarah Wayne Callies and Robert Knepper, for the Fox’s Comic-Con panel for the show, during which Purcell revealed that the idea for reviving the show came about after he and Miller teamed up again to play villains Captain Cold and Heatwave on The Flash.

“We got on set, and it was just like we hadn’t been apart for all these years, and we started to warm to the idea of why not ‘Prison Break’?

Purcell added though that “The greenlight essentially came from Wentworth” as so much of the show was built around his Michael and they needed to address a means of bringing him back to life. Miller also needed to make sure that the show got back to the same feeling of that incredible first season, which blew audiences and critics away before meandering off into a sloppy and uneven four more seasons.

“I figured that we would have to be true to the show’s DNA, but once [creator/original showrunner] Paul Scheuring signed on to spearhead these nine episodes, [my concerns were put to rest]. I wanted it to be something you remember, but also something radical and different and new.”

Thus far Fox has only filmed the pilot episode for the show, but even that was almost over before it began as Purcell revealed that in early June he suffered a pretty bad onset injury when a piece of the set accidentally dislodged and fell on top of him. The end result was a badly broken nose, a laceration near his eyebrow, two huge gashes on his head with one requiring 150 stitches, a busted up left elbow – which also required 30 stitches – and a bunch of other minor cuts and abrasions which are still healing. Purcell was out of action for about two weeks, and just thanked everybody for the support during this time.

“I want to thank my girlfriend AnnaLynne McCord for being there when it happened. She flew in. She was there to calme me. And (I want to thank) Wentworth of course, his continued support, making sure that things were taken of, as well as the producers and Fox for really looking after me, changing the schedule and letting me take a break.”

Luckily everything is back on track now again, and it looks like the new revival is doing some big things as Purcell gave a run down of this new setting, which draws a lot of inspiration from the real world.

[It] is tying into what’s going on in the world today with terrorism. The show is taking place in Yemen; we’re dealing with ISIS and ISA, and obviously we left off with Michael presumably dead. He wasn’t, he ended up working for this organization. It got to the point where he couldn’t do it anymore, and they threw him in a jail in Yemen to change his mind. He didn’t change his mind, they set him up… Paul Scheuring has written all of the nine episodes.”

Well, we got a taste of just what is happening in Yemen as Fox has now released both a new trailer as well as a scene from the pilot episode that show’s Michael Scofield is once again up to his inventive escape tactics – like apparently using chewing gum!

Prison Break‘s new 9-episode event series is set to debut on Fox sometime in early 2017. Here’s the show’s full synopsis.

Prison Break is back and ready for its biggest escape yet. In the thrilling new 2017 event series Prison Break, original series stars Wentworth Miller, Dominic Purcell, Sarah Wayne Callies, Amaury Nolasco, Robert Knepper, Rockmond Dunbar and Paul Adelstein are reunited for an all-new adventure spanning the globe and featuring the signature thrills and cliffhangers that were hallmarks of the original series when it aired on FOX from 2005-2009.

The original action drama centered on Michael Scofield (Miller), a young man determined to save his convicted brother, Lincoln Burrows (Purcell), from death row by hatching an elaborate plan to escape from prison. In the all-new event series, filmed on location in Morocco, clues surface that suggest a previously thought-to-be-dead Michael may be alive. Lincoln and Sarah (Sarah Wayne Callies), Michael’s wife until he was assumed dead, reunite to engineer the series’ biggest escape ever, as three of Fox River State Penitentiary’s most notorious escapees, Sucre (Nolasco), T-Bag (Knepper) and C-Note (Dunbar), are pulled back into the action.

  1. Really bringing back a series that was already 2 seasons too long due to 2 actors performances that barely watchable in Flash and unwatchable in Legends of Tomorrow.
