Back in the day, when all he was known for was stripping down to his underoos and helping to further the cliche that white people couldn’t rap, who would have ever thought that Mark Wahlberg would become not just a top drawer Hollywood actor, but one that could now go toe to thespian toe with Denzel Washington? And all it took to get him here was a really big prosthetic penis. And talent of course.
Luckily, only the latter is on display in this fun trailer for buddy cop with a twist film, 2 Guns.
Academy Award® winner Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg lead an all-star cast in “2 Guns,” an explosive action film that tracks two operatives from competing bureaus who are forced on the run together. But there is a big problem with their unique alliance: Neither knows that the other is an undercover federal agent.
For the past 12 months, DEA agent Bobby Trench (Washington) and U.S. naval intelligence officer Marcus Stigman (Wahlberg) have been reluctantly attached at the hip. Working undercover as members of a narcotics syndicate, each man distrusts his partner as much as the criminals they have both been tasked to take down.
When their attempt to infiltrate a Mexican drug cartel and recover millions goes haywire, Trench and Stigman are suddenly disavowed by their superiors. Now that everyone wants them in jail or in the ground, the only person they can count on is the other. Unfortunately for their pursuers, when good guys spend years pretending to be bad, they pick up a few tricks along the way.
Firstly, way to give away the entire movie’s plot in the very first trailer, guys. You know that could have gotten away with showing way less, and we’d still be sold. I mean, you already have the names of Washington and Wahlberg, along with the lovely Paula Patton, and even Admiral frackin’ Adama! A little restraint could have been afforded.
That being said, all that they’ve shown does look pretty fun. Wahlberg previously collaborated with director Baltasar Kormákur on last year’s Contraband, which wasn’t a decent enough actioner which just got bogged down by some overly complex plotting.
While those convoluted plot tendencies are creeping in here, this does appear to have a much lighter and fun tone to it, with writer Blake Masters seemingly doing his very best Shane Black impersonation, when it comes to the mismatched pairing.
And did I mention that it’s got Admiral Adama in it?!
