Will it? Won’t it? Worm farms! Talk of an actual, real and proper sequel to Dumb and Dumber has been circulating around the net for months now, as Jeff Daniels and Jim Carrey have been eyeing the project, distancing themselves from it and then rejoining when the wind blows in a certain direction.

But it seems that the Farrelly brothers are indeed ready to make that sequel. And soon actually, as Daniels has just confirmed that shooting kicks off in September. Also, this is the most annoying sound in the world.

Appearing on the Jimmy Fallon Late Night show, Daniels spoke about the film, and how the September shoot would make it a 2014 film release. And it’ll also be a special year for the film to debut:

It’ll be the 20th anniversary of the first one next year when it’s released. I’ve seen the script. It’s hysterical. We’re middle-aged. We’re not pretending we aren’t. We’re middle-aged and we’re still that stupid.

Twenty years? Holy hell, I need to watch that film again. It’s quite possible that several dozen jokes may have flown over my head due to the fact that I wasn’t yet old enough to drink by Uitenhage standards back then. As for whether or not Carrey would be on set, Daniels admitted that he was being cautiously optimistic so far. “I’ll believe it’s happening when I’m actually there staring at Jim Carrey,” Daniels said.

Jim has been against all sequels, and you know, understandably so. But he turned 50 and that will mellow you out, and suddenly he’s going, ‘Let’s have some fun. … Come on,’ and we’re going, ‘Great,’ and so the Farrellys said, ‘This isn’t a money grab. Let’s really write a great second movie that takes the original and then blows it up even further, and so I think they did that.

I’m kinda amped for the sequel. I’ve always loved the Farrelly brothers comedies, and I’ve missed seeing Carrey in a comedic role that really suits him.
