Rogue One

The world premiere for the highly anticipated Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was held in Los Angeles on Saturday night (or rather, the early hours of Sunday morning for the rest of us in sensible time zones). While reviews are still embargoed, the press were allowed to share their reactions on social media. Are you ready for the hype?

So far, the mini reviews have been overwhelmingly positive, with most critics stating Rogue One has far exceeded even the highest of expectations. It’s gritty, intense, and will grip you from the moment the movie starts to the very end. Here are some tweets to whet your appetite.

The main takeaway so far is that, not only have they made an excellent film, but one that will satisfy seriously hard-core Star Wars fans without relying on nostalgia as heavily as The Force Awakens did. It’s a completely new story with all new characters that is going to take the world by storm. If Lucasfilm had any doubts that their spin-off anthology movies weren’t going to succeed, it’s a safe bet that they don’t have to worry about that any longer!

Also, as with The Force Awakens, a lot of the footage from the trailers isn’t actually in the film, so the marketing team successfully pulled the wool over our eyes again. Apparently there are some big story twists as well, so be wary of spoilers. We’ll have our spoiler-free review up as soon as we can.

There’re only a few days left until Rogue One hits South African cinemas, and now the anticipation is palpable. I didn’t think I could get more excited about this, but I guess I was wrong!

He was born in 1972. So yes, but only 5 years old…

He’s THAT old? Little Wesley Crusher? Dang. The old Star Wars cast really is getting old.

Most startling thing about him is that he used to have hair.

            Heh, sorry Lu.

I’m a huge fanboy of both universes, the facts I can rattle off in a discussion sometimes surprise even me.

One of the reasons I loved that movie, Fanboys. So many little in-jokes and references.

We’d be hard pressed to find many on this site who aren’t fans.

Gotta ask, though, 3 series? Wars, Trek and…?

Basically hits the trifecta based of original mediums.

            Star Wars : Movie Series
            Star Trek: TV series
            Mass Effect: Game Series

Shoutout to close runner up Stargate.

I quite enjoyed the Stargate stuff as well, especially since they based it on current mythology and the whole ancient alien theory.
It’s too bad the movie didn’t really have a chance to expand on it more, they needed the series to do that.
I read a while back that there was supposed to be a trilogy of movies.
But I think there’s a remake coming that might make it awesome for everyone.

Hit the nail on the head. Though personally I prefer SG-1 to Star Trek for the series category.

Star Trek has a much longer history with many amazing captains and crew. Stargate SG1 had the originals and the rest were boring. Past season 9 I sorta switched off. Atlantis was good first season or two and Universe …. let us not talk about it.

Don’t blame you! The first time he appears (as the obsessed Trekkie), I was squinting at the screen with my poor eyes asking,” Is that Seth Rogen? Dafuq?!”

Carrie Fisher’s little cameo, though, loved that one.
