“Go Go Power Rangers”, man did I hate that show – And yet I couldn’t stop myself from watching it everyday. Ridiculous CGI, over-the-top acting and those silly sound effects that the rangers made every time they moved a body part is are both what made the show so frustrating –  and probably what made it so addictive as well.

The fact that Lionsgate are making a movie reboot for The Power Rangers should send me into hiding, the truth is that I kinda secretly really want it to get made – lets call it mere  curiosity. The thing is, in the right hands and with a bit of reworking The Power Rangers movie can be great. The good news is that so far all the elements that have been put together looks very promising.

Screenwriters Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller (X-Men: First Class, Thor) wrote the screenplay, so that’s a plus for me. Dean Israelite from Project Almanac is set to direct, another plus. The casting choices look well thought out with Dacre Montgomery the team leader, Jason aka the Red Ranger with RJ Cyler (Me and Earl and The Dying Girl) as Billy the Blue Ranger, Naomi Scott (The Martian, Terra Nova) as Kimberly aka the Pink Ranger, Ludi Lin as Zack aka the Black Ranger, and musician Becky G. as Trini aka the Yellow Ranger.

Now Lionsgate have officially announced that Elizabeth Banks has joined the cast as the loud-voiced villain Rita Repulsa, and I have to say that Banks will easily pull off the look and feel of the character. Call me crazy but I have a feeling this movie is going to be a hit and we can expect many more in the years to come.

Power Rangers will debut in theaters on March 24, 2017.
