Emotions are running low in this trailer for EQUALS

A24 Films has been nailing it with their films lately, including Ex Machina, A Most Violent Year and Slow West, to name a few and it looks like they have another interesting concept on their ways with this new trailer for Equals.

Equals is a futuristic love story where emotions have been eradicated and is a story of how people still come to build a bond with each other. And they nailed the casting in the movie, with Kristen Stewart being given the lead female role and I can’t think of anyone better to portray a world without emotions than her. Nicholas Hoult has shown considerable more range in his career, so we will have to see if he can pull it off.

While this concept has perhaps been done before, the aesthetic of the film looks really good and with a talented director in Drake Doremus (Like Crazy, The Beauty Inside), this could be a love story that is a little more palatable than what we generally find in the genre. And in this script by Nathan Parker, we have exactly what romance movies need – less emotion.

Equals also stars Guy Pearce and Jacki Weaver and is schedule for release sometime this year, after premiering at the Venice film festival last year. It has received mixed reviews thus far, though the acting has been praised. I guess, we will have to wait and see if this one is a love story that may appeal to both genders.

A man of many talents, but no sense how to use them. I could be discovering the cure for aids or finding ways to achieve world peace, but I’d rather be watching movies and writing here instead.
