I’ve been telling you guys for quite some time now already to watch The 100, but I understand that with it being a CW drama you probably suspected that it was a series stocked almost exclusively with good looking people doing things to a pop soundtrack, and… Well, actually you would be right. But The 100 is so much more than that. Yes, for people living in a post-apocalyptic future Earth ravaged by nuclear war and complete societal collapse, these folks sure do have some good dentistry and hair products. And yes, the occasional Imagine Dragons riff does show up from time to time. But holy hell is the rest of it unlike anything you may expect, as characters are killed off brutally, moral grandstanding is tossed out the window and people – both characters on the show and audience members – get put through the wringer emotionally on a weekly basis!

And that last bit is never more true than in the case of series lead, reluctant young leader Clarke (Eliza Taylor). Over the last three seasons we’ve seen her do some truly horrible things and make harrowing personal sacrifices, all for what she believed was the greater good. And that’s exactly what happened at the end of season 3, as Clarke chose to destroy the rampant AI ALIE, not believing ALIE’s claims that she offered the only recourse to a string of abandoned nuclear power stations around the world that are slowly melting down and killing the world with radiation. But as it turned out though, ALIE actually wasn’t lying (er… oops?) leaving Clarke and rest of her “Skypeople”, as well as the native Grounders, in what we colloquially refer to as “up a shit creek without a paddle”.

But based on this first trailer, figuring out just how they’re going to be able to survive this nuclear mess, is only one part of Clarke’s problems. There’s the Ice Nation prince Roan (Zach McGowan) coming back to try and “rule everything”, Octavia (Marie Averopoulos) going off the reservation in the most violent way earning her a bloody new title, Monty (Christopher Larkin) taking serious issues with Clarke’s “greater good” way of leadership, and a whole lot of other people probably dying in horrific ways! Ooh, I can’t wait!

Check out the trailer below!

The 100 season 4 kicks off on CW on 1 February 2017.

  1. I love the series as well. Just the scale of killings going on is horrifying…in such a good way.

I’ve really been enjoying it. Only started watching it recently on Netflix, but been loving it all the way. Only just finished season 1 now though…so I don’t know if I should read this article.
