Expect a more visually interesting combination of Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch in AVENGERS 2

I love it when a plan comes together, said that one guy from the A Team who I can’t remember right now. Cannibal I think his name was. Anyway, Marvel had a plan when it built its way towards the big screen Avengers movie, and it paid off well. Like with all the money in the world circa 2012.

And with that mission a success a sequel was inevitable. Two is a cool number after all, and what could be cooler than a pair of mutants in the upcoming sequel?

On the Jimmy Fallon show, Whedon spoke to the annoying host about the upcoming film, and how he had been wanting to incorporate the duo for a while now. In a manner that makes them fresh and relevant that is. “There are new characters. I’ve already said that we’re going to have a brother-sister team, the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, who were great mainstays of The Avengers when I was reading the comics as a kid.”

So who exactly is the Scarlet Witch and Quicksliver? In the comics, they’re the children of mutant terrorist and master of magnetism Magneto. Raised by a talking cow in the Wundagore mountains (I crap thee not, her name was Bova), Quicksilver has the ability to run faster than Oscar Pistorious from criminal charges, while the Scarlet Witch has chaos magic mastery that was later retconned to be reality-warping powers with which she could reshape the universe with on a bad day.

So why include the duo, knowing full well that current Mutant rights holder FOX entertainment is going to inevitably be spoiling for a fight? Because for a big screen adventure, they’ll make for some interesting visuals according to Whedon:

Well, besides the fact that I grew up reading them, their powers are very visually interesting. One of the problems I had on the first one was, everybody basically had punchy powers. ‘I can hit,’ ‘I can also hit.’ Hopefully it didn’t get too boring. But coming into the second one, he’s got super speed. She can weave spells and a little telekinesis, get inside your head. There’s good stuff that they can do that will help sort of keep it fresh.

Still, it looks like Whedon might be having an uphill battle in getting the speedster half of this sibling duo on the big screen. While plans are underway still for The Avengers 2, director Bryan Singer has confirmed that he’ll be using Quicksilver as well in the upcoming X-Men film Days of Future Past.  Evan Peters will be slipping on those running shoes, while Whedon will not be able to even mention the word mutant in Avengers 2.

Obviously, both sides are downright pissed off and refuse to budge.
