Extras-750-final

Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

  • Snickers, the chocolate bar that is apparently obsessed with your testicles, has been running an ad campaign featuring famous folk playing people who just don’t feel like themselves until the eat Snickers. And the latest ad is here, featuring a bit of Crouching Dragon, Hidden Bean!

“I had a meeting and have been talking over the last several months or year with Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin, the producer, and they’ve been cooking up and say they have a part for me in what they hope will be a plan to make another one pretty soon. Maybe last weekend there was a script handed in, so it’s brewing,”

  • Congratulations, world. We’ve finally won one against the evil forces of Hollywood! Yesterday news broke that NBC and 20th Century Fox TV had signed a deal for a TV series sequel to writer-director Cameron Crowe’s 1989 John Cusack rom-com Say Anything. Lots of folks on the internet didn’t take too kindly to this, including Cameron Crowe and star John Cusack. Turns out neither man had even been aware that a sequel was on the cards, and voiced their objections to the whole project, in particular Cameron who still felt very protective over his feature film debut.

And lo and behold, somebody listened. In the wake of Cameron and Cusack’s objection against it, the studio has now shelved the series idea entirely.

  • Unfortunately, there’s no such shelving on the cards for the next story, which is that ABC are developing a new TV series based on the John Hughes comedy classic Uncle Buck. The original 1989 film saw the late John Candy as “a childish man, who learns how to be an adult by taking care of his brother’s kids in a very childish way,” and the TV series is set to follow the same path. Again. Yes, again, because Uncle Buck was already adapted as a TV series back in 1990, only to have it cancelled after just one season.
  • Is Mark Wahlberg about to have his very own McConnaissance? His MarkyMarkonnaissance, if you will? Based on these first pics for The Gambler – which also feature co-stars Brie Larson and Jessica Lange – Wahlberg has certainly put in a Matthew McConaughey-like physical transformartion as he lost 60 pounds to play “a professor whose gambling addiction sends him on a downward spiral” in this Rupert Wyatt directed remake of the 1974 Golden Globe nominated drama.

Here’s what Wahlberg had to say about the role made famous by James Caan:

“My character is in every scene, but during the 12-hour days over six months, I was on fire. You prepare your whole life for a part like this. I was living on adrenaline.”

  • Speaking of people who change themselves physically for a role… It would seem that we need to amend our list of the greatest method actors of all time, and next to names like Daniel Day Lewis and Christian Bale, we need to add… Shia LaBeouf? Wait, what?! If you thought that “The Beef” sending a sex tape of him and his girlfriend to Lars Von Trier to audition for a role in Nymphomaniac was bad enough, then just wait until you hear what Logan Lerman, LaBeouf’s co-star in Fury, has to say about the crazy lengths LaBeouf went to for authenticity in the David Ayer directed WWII tank flick.

“We were in make-up and they were putting cuts on Shia and I said, ‘Yeah, yeah, it looks good.’ And Shia was like, ‘No, it doesn’t look real’,” he said. “Then he walks out into the hallway and says, ‘Hey man, wanna see something fun? Check this out…’ and he takes out a knife and cuts his face. And for the whole movie he kept opening these cuts on his face. That’s all real.”

Oh and did we mention that he also had a dentist pull out one of his perfectly healthy front teeth for the role?! It’s times like these that words fail me, and only emoticons will do: o_O

  • This Toy Story/Annabelle trailer mashup just confirms something that I’ve long suspected: Four-inch tall plastic cowboys are super creepy.

  • Look, despite Robert Downey Jr recently saying that there were no plans for Iron Man 4, we always knew that there was no way that Marvel would not trot out their biggest star at least one more go-around. And when RDJ recently appeared on the Ellen DeGeneres Show (via ComingSoon), he confirmed that this was indeed the case.

“I know there’s going to be a bunch more Marvel movies,” he said. “And they have big ideas of how to do it best and we’re in the middle of negotiation…”  Ellen quickly prompted, “So, yes?” leading Downey to reply “Okay, yes!”

But that’s not the only thing RDJ said yesterday, and this second bit is actually the most interesting. The Avengers star did an AMA (that’s Ask Me Anything, for those of you who didn’t know) on Reddit yesterday, and when asked about future plans for his character, replied with this cryptic tease.

“Sooner than later the Marvel Roster will be made public and all questions will be answered.”

Hmmm…. The New York Comic Con is starting tomorrow, you know…

  • Based on its franchise history, calling Transformers: Age of Extinction the most incoherent and dumb out of the lot really is a bold statement. But its one that this Honest Trailer is more than willing to back up. With a little help from the Chinese, of course.
