Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

  • Ace Ventura: Pet Detective is about as goofy a comedy as you can get, except for that one moment of sheer horror as Ace realizes that Finkle is Einhorn, Einhorn is Finkle! Which is why this vid, which recuts footage from the movie to create a trailer for a prequel horror movie simply titled Finkle, works so well. Remember, laces out!

  • You get a prostitute and a beating! You get a prostitute and a beating! EVERYBODY GETS A PROSTITUTE AND A BEATING!! Lee Daniels’ Richard Pryor biopic has been locking down its cast this week, with Mike Epps being confirmed earlier in the week to play the legendary comedian. And now Daniels has announced that Oprah Winfrey has been cast to play Marie Carter, Pryor’s physically abusive, brothel-madam grandmother who raised him.
  • Ever watched Stargate SG-1 and realized that all these humans they come across on distant alien planets, whose ancestors were taken from Earth thousands and thousands of years ago all speak perfect modern English? Yep, things like that are just one of the 5 Stupidest Way Movies Deal With Foreign Languages.

  • If you, for some strange, unfathomable reason, have never seen the original pre-Special Edition versions of the Star Wars Original Trilogy and thus couldn’t understand what all the fuss was about with recent rumours that a Blu Ray box-set of the theatrical cuts could be released, then you need to go check out Empire’s Complete list of Star Wars Changes.

  • I’m actually not sure if this is good news or bad, but the sex abuse case against X-Men director Bryan Singer that has been going on since last year, has been completely dropped. The case, which the director called “a sick twisted shakedown”, was brought against him and several other big Hollywood players by 31 year old Michael Egan, who claimed that Singer and co sexually abused during one of Singer’s famously raucous parties when he was still underage. Egan eventually dropped the charges against the other accused earlier in the year, and following on from his own lawyers resigning from the case last month, Egan has now dropped the charges against Singer as well.

If this was just a shakedown, then thumbs up from me that Egan decided to do the right thing, and I’m happy that Singer can now get back to making more X-Men movies. However, if this is once again just another case of a wealthy celeb making a deal with an accuser behind closed doors to make the problems go away, then this is a bit worrying.

  • Rila Fukuchima was easily one of the highlights for me on last year’s The Wolverine, I stated back then that I couldn’t wait to see what she tackles next. And it seems that the superhero bug has bit her as she is set to replace the recently cast Devon Aoki on the upcoming season of Arrow. Fukuchima will now be taking on the major recurring role of Tatsu Yamashiro aka the masked assassin with the possessed sword codenamed Katana. Aoki had to pull out of the role due to scheduling conflicts.
  • It would seem that recut trailers of famous movies are the order of the day, as this trailer for The Princess Died turns The Princess Bride a little creepy.

  • Move over McConnaissance, it seems we’re about to enter… a Keatonnaissance?… the Keatoning?… Keatonapalooza?! Okay, so there’s catchy way to really say this, but the fact of the matter is that Michael Keaton is back! At least that’s according to the first reviews for Alejandro Iñárritu’s Birdman (which debuted at the Venice Film Festival a few days ago), which seem to have the words “Oscar” and “contender” thrown around a lot when it comes Keaton’s meta-performance as an actor most well known for playing a famous superhero on-screen years ago who is now trying to branch out in his career, much to the detriment of his fragile psyche.
  • Since Ghostbusters is celebrating it’s 30th Anniversary this year (with a new reboot being announced recently), and will even be re-releasing in exclusive cinemas to celebrate, it’s probably a good time to take a look back at the original film. Honestly.

  • And because we just cannot end the day with some people poking fun at one of our childhood favourite movies, here’s a bonus, palette cleanser clip, looking at Everything wrong with Armageddon. And yes, as expected, there are a lot of them.
