Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

We kick off today with creepy kids who grow up to become psychos that pretend to be their own mothers and give the worst shower neck rubs ever. Yep, it’s the new trailer for Bates Motel, the sorta kinda prequel reboot thingy series that deals with the young Norman Bates from Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho.

It seems that 20 years after we saw the last Bruce Lee biopic, the kung fu master is finally getting another origin story. Titled Birth of a Dragon, the film is being set up by QED International and will have Ali and Nixon screenwriters Stephen Rivele and Christopher Wilkinson penning a script that mixes biopic realism with action movie excitement. The film is said to focus on the period after Lee’s legendary 1965 duel  with Wong Jack Man, and will see the pair settle their differences and team up to take down Chinatown’s gangsters in San Francisco.

Somebody call Jason Scott Lee at the Chinese restaurant he’s busking in front of to make rent nowadays, and tell him we need him for a cameo where he just needs to play a waiter who asks Bruce Lee if he wants a glass of “WATAAAAAHHH!”

Justin Lin is a Timelord. There simply is no other scientifically viable option to explain how the Fast & Furious 6 director plans to film everything he’s been recently attached to. He’s got Fast 7, the manga adaptation Lone Wolf and Cub, the comedy Chinglish, the real life drama LA Riots, the pair of sci-fi projects Hibernation and Subdivision and he’s producing the new Highlander reboot. And yet, he’s been attached to direct an adaptation of the first of a new series of novels by Patrick Lee. The still untitled novel is set for release in 2014 and will follow ex special operative Sam Dryden as he becomes wrapped up in a mission to protect a mysterious young girl.

Speaking of Fast & Furious 6 here’s a new photo that contrary to first viewing does actually not show Jordana Brewster and Paul Walker about to get on a rollercoaster.

David O. Russel will be teaming up again with his Silver Linings Playbook star Jennifer Lawrence as he has signed on to direct The Ends of the Earth, the true-life drama about a powerful oil tycoon, Ernest Marland, whose life falls apart after engaging in a controversial love affair with his adopted daughter Lydie (Lawrence). Sorry Ernie ol’ boy, but that hillbilly crap don’t fly around these parts.

Now I know that Warner Bros can’t seem to get all their superpowered ducks in a row at the moment, but what the frag ever happened to that Lobo movie that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was going to star in with that bastich Brad “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island” Peyton directing? Turns out, it just went away. Here’s Johnson explaining it, as well as talking about his upcoming role as Hercules, which he calls his “passion project”.

And because every needs pointers on how to and how not to do it, here’s a list of The 10 Best and Worst Movie Sex Scenes. I have a feeling this is going to be read thoroughly. For science, of course!

If you still want to leave some mystery as to who is actually going to be sporting the green face and hooked nose as the Wicked Witch in Oz the Great and Powerful then I don’t suggest you check out these new images that leave zero doubt as to the flying monkey wrangling witch’s identity.

JJ Abrams went against every secretive fiber of his being when he actually gave straight answers about Star Trek Into Darkness. When asked about the classic Trek villains the Klingons, who had their scenes cut from the 2009 film, Abrams responded:

“Their role in this is definitely that of adversary, and you’ll see how that plays out.”

He also spoke Alice Eve’s Dr. Carol Marcus, a character from the original timeline who revealed during Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan that she had a child with intergalactic, non-discriminating playboy (seriously, that dude doesn’t care where your orifice is) Capt. James T. Kirk.

“(Kirk) meets her fairly early on and again she plays a science officer, she’s someone who is a part of the adventure.  I think Chris [Pine] is right, because it’s very much an action adventure movie and once that gets going it’s a very difficult thing to park the story. So it’s very difficult to do a romantic interlude. Her role is important, she wouldn’t be in the movie otherwise.”

Director Robert Rodriguez took to twitter to show off these behind the scenes, work in progress pics of Josh Brolin as Dwight in Sin City: A Dame To Kill For. Now before you start checking your medication levels, don’t worry, you’re not going crazy. Dwight was the name of the character played by Clive Owen in the first film, but A Dame To Kill For, partially takes place before the events of that film, before Dwight decided to disappear by getting acquainted with a plastic surgeon’s knife. I need to get the name of the surgeon though, because he even managed to pull off the risky procedure of an English Accent Transplant.

@Rodriguez :”And here’s a quick photo touch up I do to set a tone for the actors. (Probably won’t be raining in final movie).”

Looks like we now know who will be leading the battle against those damn, dirty apes. THR is reporting that Zero Dark Thirty star Jason Clark has landed the lead role in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, the Matt Reeves (Cloverfield, Let Me In) directed sequel to Ruper Wyatt’s 2011 surprise hit. The report also goes on to give us our first hint at the plot direction for the sequel, saying that it will take place 15 years after the events of Rise of the Planet of the Apes, after the viral infection seen at the end of that film has already spread across the entire planet, giving primates enhanced intelligence that allows them to conquer most of humanity.

The story will apparently have two arcs, where “one focus is on the group of human scientists who are struggling to survive alone in San Francisco. Another aspect of the story is the struggle of intelligent ape Caesar, played by a returning Andy Serkis, to maintain dominance over his kingdom.”

Speaking of Rupert Wyatt, everybody’s been keeping a very keen eye on his career after he caught folks unawares when the turned what many wrote off as just another monkey-fighting reboot into a critical and box office smash. It’s already been revealed that his next project will be the WWII drama, Birdsong, but now it seems that he may be eyeballing another further down the line. It was reported last month that Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive) had pulled out of the big screen adaptation of  80’s TV series Equalizer, and it seems that Wyatt is looking to take his place in the big folding chair.

Denzel Washington is still attached to star in the $50 million thriller that will see him play “a solitary, monastic figure who hates injustice and devotes himself to helping people who are being victimized.”

There were many that taken by surprise by Ben Affleck turning out to be an incredible director. Sure, he burst onto the scene writing and starring in the brilliant Good Will Hunting, but directing? Especially not after starring in a stream of celluloid effluent (I blame J-Lo. A man can only be called Beniffer for so long before losing a piece of yourself). But he surprised us all with an incredible directorial debut. Or did he?

Here is Ben’s actual directorial debut on a short film from back in 1993, and it’s bad. Really, really bad. But you should already gather that from the title alone: I Killed My Lesbian Wife, Hung Her on a Meat Hook, and Now I Have a Three-Picture Deal at Disney

Oh and don’t worry, Ben hates it too:

“It’s horrible. It’s atrocious. I knew I wanted to be a director, and I did a couple of short films, and this is the only one that haunts me. I’m not proud of it…It looks like it was made by someone who has no prospects, no promise.”
