Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

Look in the sky! It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s a new image of Henry Cavill as Superman! Unfortunately, this is courtesy of a French magazine cover, so no fancy action shots, but it does give a nice closeup of Cavill’s new chain mail looking costume.

Iron Man 3′s production might be pretty much all done but for the Stark snarking, with the last bit of shooting currently happening in Beijing, but the cast is still expanding. Chinese star Wang Xuequi has joined the superhero threequel in the role of Dr. Lu, a new character that was created especially for him.

Keeping things Iron Mannish, director Shane Black spoke to Wired about how he’ll be putting his own spin on what came before.

“I owe sort of a debt to [Jon] Favreau. I have to carry on what he started without violating it – at the same time bringing sort of my own enhancement if I can. We had a conundrum in that ‘The Avengers’ opens up this huge skyhole full of inter-dimensional aliens, and you kind of look back and [think], ‘Well, what do you do after that?’ Except go back to a sort of gritty intense kind of techno-thriller route.”

Gritty, intense you say? But but but…

Holy photoshopped thumbs, Batman! Here’s a new rather eye-catching Brazilian poster for Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters.

Robert Zemeckis’ 1992 black comedy Death Becomes Her, is a movie that’s probably best remembered for Isabella Rosellini’s scantily clad scenes. Right? Just me then? Hey, I was a red blooded 11-year old boy at the time. I mean it was also pretty cool watching Goldie Hawn and Meryl Streep, made immortal through the fountain of youth, blowing holes in each other’s stomach and twisting necks 180 degrees the wrong way.

And now a new generation will get to experience the kooky tale… On TV. Bravo will remaking the movie into an hour-long series for NBCUniversal. Zemeckis will be back on board to executive produce, but no word yet on whether anybody else will be involved.

There’s a fairly good chance that you haven’t seen The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey yet, but you’ve probably also seen that most of the reviews coming out are looking pretty meh. Well, if you cannot believe the nerve of these people who actually have seen the movie accusing your beloved The Hobbit (which you must still watch) of being anything short of the greatest movie of all time, then know that Pajiba agrees with you eleventy-one percent!

Hey, speaking of The Hobbit, here’s a new TV spot for the movie that focuses on everybody’s favourite Darryn Bonthuys cosplayer, Gollum.

Simply uncanny.

Feature film newcomer Frank Moll has had his script Arminius picked up for development by Twentieth Century Fox. The script tells “the fact-based story of Arminius, a German who was trained as a Roman warrior, but who switched allegiance when the Romans tried to take over Germania. At 25, he would eventually unite disparate Germanic tribes and rally them to victory against the Roman Army in the bloody Battle of the Teutoburg Forest. The defeat had ramifications that would end with Arminius losing his life, but it halted the Roman Empire’s expansion North, and became the worst loss suffered by the Romans under the reign of Augustus Caesar”. The tale that takes place in the beginning the first century AD has been likened to Mel Gibson’s Braveheart. Which to a Braveheart fanboy like me, sounds like a really bold choice of words.

He may soon be sending The Rock undercover to save his son in the true life drama Snitch but writer-director Ric Roman Waugh’s next project is going to be less grounded than that. A lot less grounded. Relativity Media has tapped him to direct and rewrite Tod Stein’s original screenplay for Tipping Point, a futuristic sci-fi thriller “that paints an ominous picture of the world 100 years into the future. With the world’s population approaching 10 billion, the penalty for having children without a license is death – no questions, no excuses, and no mercy. Ruthless Population Control Officer Solomon Cage lives only for his job, until the day he discovers two fugitives he’s been pursuing are the love of his life who mysteriously disappeared years ago and the 12-year-old son he never knew he had.”

Besides for the very cheesy 90’s styled moniker of of “Solomon Cage”, it’s certainly a rather intriguing premise.

Looks like Lee Pace is taking some time out from being Legolas’ daddy over in The Hobbit to go guard some galaxies. The Pushing Daisies and The Fall star revealed to MTV that he’s auditioning for the role of Peter Quill aka Star-Lord, the human/alien hybrid leader of the titular Guardians of the Galaxy.

“I go in on Monday to meet them all and audition for it, so wish me luck…I’m very excited about it. The script is great…I have been [reading up on Star-Lord]. You want to know what you’re doing. The character is a lot of fun. I hope it works out.”

“We’ll see. We’ll see. I’ve got to audition. I’ve got to go get it. I actually love auditioning, so I’m happy to go meet them all and do it.”

That doesn’t make it a done deal though, as he has to now hope that Marvel and director James Gunn likes what he has to offer. I liked Pace in the little bit I’ve seen him in, so he gets my vote but if for some reason he really blows it, it’s not as if Marvel is out of options either.

And to finish off today, we bring you yet another behind the scenes featurette for The Dark Knight Rises. But this one is a little different. And by different I mean completely not in the movie, but effing hilarious!
