Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

Over here at TheMovies, we have a special place in our hearts for Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li. It’s also the same place reserved for pedophile tele-marketers who talk on their phones during movies. Most of our ire for that travesty film comes from… well, everything about it really. Which is why Chris Klein’s performance as Charlie Nash is so special. Even among that sea of badness he still stands out of the crowd, which is why JoBlo have dedicated this week’s Awfully Good to The Best of Charlie Nash.

John Boyega really jumped into the limelight from out of nowhere when he led a gang of teenage English thugs to fighting back an alien invasion in Attack the Block. The talented young actor hasn’t really done too much since then though, just landing a couple of smaller roles in two other films. But he’ll be back to leading man status, in another sci-fi flick, Creeping Zero. No word yet on what it’ll be about, but it’ll co-star Chronicle‘s Ashley Henshaw.

Just a week ago, we brought you news that Ethan Hawke and director Richard Linklater were in Greece together, as they tried to hash out a script for the second sequel to cult favourite Before Sunset. Well, apparently these guys are hash masters. Deadline is reporting that they finished filming on Before Midnight last night. Yes, finished. Done. Finito. In just 6 days, and just in time for the Toronto Film Fest.

The trio of Linklater, Hawke and co-star Julie Delpy issued this statement along with the incredible news:

“It’s great to be back together again, this time in beautiful Greece to revisit the lives of Celine and Jesse nine years after Jesse was about to miss his flight.”

You saw the trailer yesterday (and possibly pulled a face like you’ve just received a waft of fresh cow manure, when you did) and now you get the first poster for Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters. And just like the trailer, it’s rather disappointing.

Ex-superpowered scalper turned pointy eared space guy Zachary Quinto is chatting to The Wrap about the Star Trek sequel, on which he has just wrapped filming his role. Well, at least he’s chatting about it as much as anybody can chat about anything on a typically super-secret JJ Abrams production.

“It was bigger.  It was bolder, I think, than the first one, and that was pretty big and bold from my stand point. I’m really excited to see what they do with it.”

“I feel like, you know, my work is done on the movie right now and until we have to go and promote it, then my work remains done and I let J.J. and his incredible team of people get in there and do the work that they need to do now.”

Quinto also revealed that he much prefers smaller fare like last 2011’s US economic crisis mockumentary Margin Call, despite how good big budget blockbusters like Star Trek have been to him:

“I feel very fulfilled, but I don’t feel particularly attached to what the outcome of that project will be because I have faith in the people that I was collaborating with to make it as good as it can be.”

“I’m just happy to be working on something else and be creatively fulfilled in other ways and be producing movies and be thinking about how I can, you know, get behind the camera in different ways and tell my own stories.”

Following on from that anti-narcoleptic poster released last week, here’s the first image from Texas Chainsaw 3D courtesy of ShockTillYouDrop, which shows Leatherface contemplate some midnight hedge trimming. And by hedge, I mean your face.

We have our first real details on the new James Bond feature-length documentary, Everything or Nothing: The Untold Story of 007, announced last week as part of the 50th Anniversary World James Bond Day celebrations which will take place on 5 October.

The film is directed by Stevan Riley (Fire in Babylon) and produced by John Battsek (One Day In September, The Tillman Story) and Simon Chinn (Man on Wire), and will be focusing on the trio of men whose dream it was originally to put 007 on the big screen – Bond producers Albert R. Broccoli, Harry Saltzman, and author Ian Fleming.

The film will debut on the Epix Network on EpixHD.com, as well as the Epix Apps to be found on mobile devices, and will be followed up with free screenings of 5 of Bond’s most popular adventures as part of a free preview for Epix.

Epix CEO and President Mark Greenberg had this to say about the event:

“From Sean Connery and Roger Moore, to Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig – the integrity of Bond has never changed and has never been more entertaining. Our documentary and movie marathon is a great way for us to reach our viewers and we’re pleased to partner with all our distribution partners to bring the background of this iconic spy to all their subscribers just in time for his latest adventure, Skyfall,”

WhatCulture is busy detailing the 10 Most Inventive Shots In Cinema History. Head on over and be simultaneously amazed and educated (amazucated?). This particular entry from Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings has to be me favourite.

Brian Klugman and Lee Sternthal, the writer-director duo behind the soon to be release Bradley Cooper drama The Words will be getting all ghostly for their next project. The pair have signed on to direct and do a rewrite of Jason  (Ice Age: Continental Drift) Fuchs’ script adapted from the forthcoming Daniel Walters novel, Break My Heart 1,000 Times. And yes, you read correctly. We’re now doing adaptations of novels before they’re even released.

I must admit though, the synopsis for the novel does sound rather intriguing:

Living in the aftermath of the Event means that seeing the dead is now a part of life, but Veronica wishes that the ghosts would just move on. Instead, the ghosts aren’t disappearing — they’re gaining power.

When Veronica and her friend, Kirk, decide to investigate why, they stumble upon a more sinister plot than they ever could have imagined. One of Veronica’s high school teachers is crippled by the fact that his dead daughter has never returned as a ghost, and he’s haunted by the possibility that she’s waiting to reappear within a fresh body. Veronica seems like the perfect host. And even if he’s wrong, what’s the harm in creating one more ghost?

Keeping things adaptation-y, Deadline reports that Warner Bros have signed a deal to adapt Dan Krokos’ forthcoming (yep, another one not released yet) young adult novel, The Planet Thieves, into a feature film. No cast or crew have been attached to the project yet, but you can read the synopsis for the book below:

When the crew of the SS Egypt gets massacred by an alien race, Mason Stark, a thirteen-year-old cadet in the Earth Space Command, must lead his fellow cadets in a daring surprise attack to retake the ship, and recover a stolen technology that could spell the end of planet Earth.

Along with the news of the adaptation, Krokos also took to his blog to reveal his motivations behind the story:

“I wanted to write a pure adventure story. Something fun. What I came up with is slightly darker than what I was going for, but it’s still a work in progress. I got the idea when I imagined the bridge of a space ship manned only by cadets. Kids who knew what they were doing but lacked the experience of battle. I asked myself why that would happen, and went from there.”

This one’s for all the Twihards out there. The final trailer for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2: The never ending title;  First Sequence or Something may only be coming out tomorrow, but the film’s Facebook page was updated today with a sneak peek of what to expect.

Collider have got all the deets (that’s what cool kids say nowadays, right?) on the soon to be released Universal Classic Monsters: The Essential Collection Blu-Ray boxset, including magnificent box-art for the menagerie of movie monster mayhem. (Take that, high school English teacher who said I was no good!)

We’ve seen a couple of different trailers now already for Liamapalooza Taken 2, and a new one just got released last night. So what makes this one different and worthy of a mention? Simple really. Liam Neeson threatened my existence if I didn’t watch it. And since I like all my internal organs in their current configuration, that’s exactly what I’m going to do.

And because I know how much you guys hate doing things that involve physical effort, here’s that missing scene Mr Neeson was talking about:

  1. So… I can imagine the evil terrorist convention next year:
“Tonight, we award the dumbest terro in the business award posthumously to the bastard daft enough to kidnap a certain Brian Mills and his wife…”

We can then safely say that Star Trek 2 is going to be BOLD and BIG. Glad they cleared that up! 😛
