We’re nothing if not equal opportunity mockers around here. So despite how much love we have for Joss Whedon’s superheropalooza The Avengers, and after recently featuring CinemaSin’s hilarious dismantling of The Amazing Spider-Man, it just wouldn’t be fair to not toss the Hulk and friends under the bus as well.
While I don’t agree with some of the comments, the no “ear-piece in their ears” thing is one gigantic gaffe.
And hey, while we’re getting all Whedony and Marvely up in here, we may as well keep it going. Head of Marvel TV, Jeph Loeb, has spilled some details on when we can expect the new S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series.
“Well…we have a ‘little’ pilot for television that you might have heard about called Marvel’s S.H.I.E.L.D. co-written, directed, and Executive Produced by none other than Joss Whedon!. Working with Joss, Jed Whedon, Maurissa Tancharoen, Jeffrey Bell on the show is a blast! And bringing in Clark Gregg to play Agent Phil Coulson — the best! Hopefully we will be on in the Fall of 2013 on ABC!”
Joss Whedon popped in at the Director’s Guild of America in Hollywood last night to do a special screening of The Avengers as well as do a Q&A with the audience. A few interesting tidbits popped up, like the fact that we nearly got Wasp instead of Black Widow, how Whedon wanted a second villain in Avengers (that wasn’t Thanos) that may turn up later, and why he thinks that A New Hope is better than Empire Strikes Back.
A wicked new poster has been released for Sam Raimi’s Oz the Great and Powerful, that features that Wickedest of Witches. Now up until now, the identity of the Wicked Witch has been a mystery, but there have been several hints that it will be Mila Kunis’ character Theodora, who will eventually don the green nose. However, quite a few sites are reporting that is actually Rachel Weisz on this poster, despite the fact that all the makeup hides the identity and I can’t find a single scrap of hard evidence to back that claim up.
Since Francis Lawrence is going to be catching some fires and mocking some jays all the way until 2015 with the next three Hunger Games films, it’s only natural that some of the director’s other proposed projects will fall to way side. One of those is Unbroken, an adaptation of Seabiscuit author Laura Hillenbrand’s award winning WWII based novel telling the true story of Louis Zamperini, a former Olympian who became a Japanese POW during the war, and was subject to inhumane torture, degradation and medical experiments. He endured all those hardships right until the end of the war, and despite still feeling emotional damage for years afterwards, still forgave his captors, even going so far as to personally meet them in Japan.
With Lawrence now out of the running, Angelina Jolie is looking to snatch up the project making this her second directorial effort after the much smaller scaled indie war drama In the Land of Blood and Honey.
Josh Brolin has been speaking to Collider about Spike Lee’s Oldboy remake, which Brolin will be starring in. With a film as much of a cult classic as Park Chan-Wook’s original film was, fans we naturally apprehensive about it, but Brolin explained what makes their film different.
“With Oldboy, look, it’s Spike Lee, its myself, there’s the DP Sean Bobbitt, who’s fucking amazing, man, and me talking to Chan-wook Park and saying, ‘Do you mind if we do this?’ and his only request was just don’t do the same movie and it’s like no were not interested in that. Structurally, as a scaffolding, it’s the same movie, but what we do with is very different. It looks very different.”
And if you’re wondering how they’re going to recreate the “hallway fight” scene, one of the original film’s most infamous scenes and one that we featured on our list of Greatest Fight Scenes of All Time a while back, then don’t worry, because they’re not.
“We don’t match anything [from the hallway scene]. The only matching is that we do it in one take. That’s the only matching. That’s the only similarity. Well, no, there’s one more similarity, but it’s basically the only similarity within that sequence and I think I can be safe to say that it’s not anything like the original other than it is one take and I’ve never experienced or seen anything like it. And I think what J.J. Perry did as the fight coordinator is something phenomenal. I will say this, I thought there is no way I could possibly pull it off until about a week before we did it after rehearsing it for quite a while.”
Vin Diesel has been busy over on Facebook and I don’t just mean Farmville. The Riddick star has posted this cool new image of himself in costume with writer-director David Twohy, as well as finally revealing that everybody’s favourite shiny-eyed, shoulder dislocating, universe ruling, mass murdering anti-hero will be hitting cinema screens on September 6, 2013.
Josh “That guy in the Hunger Games that Katniss may/may not have a thing for” Hutcherson has joined Benecio Del Toro in the cast of Paradise Lost. Based on true events, the film tells of a young man who in love with a local girl while on holiday in South America, only to discover that her uncle is Pablo Escobar. You know, the superwealthy Colombian drug lord and narcoterrorist. Yeah, and you thought you had it rough with your in-laws.
Sweet Christmas, can you believe that Quentin Tarantino once wanted to make a Luke Cage movie?!
“After ‘Reservoir Dogs,’ I had considered doing a ‘Luke Cage, Hero for Hire’ movie. [Producer] Ed Pressman owned the rights at that time, and we talked about it. I talked to Larry Fish [Laurence Fishburne] about being Luke Cage, and he really liked that idea. Then I ended up writing ‘Pulp Fiction.’
Tarantino was actually offered the directing gig on another comic book superhero movie in Green Lantern but turned it down. And although I really cannot picture what a Tarantino Green Lantern movie would look like, I’m guessing it couldn’t have been worse than the jade turd we ended up with. Since then, Tarantino hasn’t really been interested in any other superhero flick, and there’s a good reason for that.
“My feeling is if I wanted to do something like that, I’d want to create the superhero myself.”
Veteran director Martin Scorsese will be shining the spotlight on Washington gigolo and occasional ex-US President Bill Clinton in a new documentary about the world’s most famous cigar smoker for American cable network HBO. Scorsese released this statement about Clinton:
“A towering figure who remains a major voice in world issues, President Clinton continues to shape the political dialogue both here and around the world. Through intimate conversations, I hope to provide greater insight into this transcendent figure.”
Clinton reciprocated with his own statement before sending a couple of interns over to Marty’s place.
“I am pleased that legendary director Martin Scorsese and HBO have agreed to do this film. I look forward to sharing my perspective on my years as President, and my work in the years since, with HBO’s audience.”
This Christmas it’s going to a choice between poor singing French people and emancipated slaves on the revenge path as Les Miserables and Django Unchained will go head to head. And Anne Hathaway and Samuel L Jackson, stars of both films, respectively, would like to tell you why they think their film is better. And by better, I actually mean the most filled with misery, heartache and racism.
