Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

I’ve been a fan of stop-motion animation ever since I was a kid (Thank you, Ray Harryhausen), and I get all excited whenever a film employs this bit of movie magic. As such, one of my most anticipated films of the year is Dreamwork’s Paranorman and now in a new time-lapse featurette for the film, you can get an idea for the mind blowing amount of work that goes into making such a movie a reality.

True Blood and Magic Mike star Joe Mangienello seems to be cashing in on the popularity of his abdominal muscles at the moment, and is looking to join Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sam Worthington in the DEA heist film, Breacher.

The world’s most famous really cheesy suit, the white polyester one worn by John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever, was possibly considered lost to the ravages of time as it was last seen in public 17 years ago. But thanks to the British V&A Museum, it’s been recovered in London and has now been put on display. Because this is important to humanity.

Here’s a new poster for Rian Johnson’s Looper, which sees the two Willises (Willii?) back to back.

Tom Hiddleston has been speaking to Total Film about playing Loki in the Marvel universe and what we can expect from Thor: The Dark World:

“Underneath the steely cold veneer of his trickster charm is a certain vulnerability and sensitivity – the wounded fragility of an outcast brother and son. His mind IS a box of cats though! But I love him.”

“The best thing about being Loki is that he is my diametric opposite. Physically, he is a photo negative of who I am. Loki is dark and pale, and I am light and fair. Also spiritually I am not much like him either. Yet I feel an incredible freedom in playing him.

“He is a combination of mercurial intellectual ability, emotional ambiguity, rakish charm, charisma and provocative wit. He has a wicked inclination to mischief, underneath which is a well of spiritual pain. Both these aspects are central to his depth as a character: his unashamed and perverse delight in creating chaos; and his capacity for raw emotional expression.

“And – as my American friends tell me – he’s kind of a badass! He’s one of the richest, most rewarding, most fun characters I’ve ever played.”

“I don’t want to give too much away. But I can guarantee that you won’t be disappointed. Alan Taylor’s vision of Thor 2 is utterly brilliant. The journey continues in the most epic dimension and proportion imaginable. It’s very, very exciting.”

Mickey Rourke is all about the City! It looks like he might be returning to Sin City: A Dame to Kill For and has been confirmed to be joining Gerard Butler in Motor City.

Yo, final poster for John Hillcoat’s Lawless! JJ Abrams and my 10-year old cousing who just discovered Photoshop called. They want their totally gratuitous and out of place lens flare back.

Jennifer Lawrence got her big break in a movie about hillbillies, and if you’ve been fervently wishing for her to return to her redneck ways, then firstly, you may need to seek professional psychiatric help, and secondly you may just get your wish. Well kind of. Lawrence is set to star as the love interest of powerful oil tycoon Ernest Marland in the true – yes, TRUE! – story Ends of the Earth. What makes this so hillbilly? Lawrence will be playing Marland’s adoptive daughter. Yee-haw!

Universal Pictures has posted their fastest climb to $1 billion in a year, beating their previous personal best by three months, thanks to a foul-mouthed teddy bear, Ryan Reynolds talking Afrikaans and a moustached gerbil-like creature with a name like a female hygiene product.

So some completely lucky buggers got to see special screening of The Shining over the weekend. But that’s not the real news, because as soon as the credits began to roll on the classic film, it was announced that as a surprise, the audience would be the first to see Paul Thomas Anderson’s latest film, the scientology tinged The Master. And according to those in attendance, Anderson and his three leads, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Jaoquin Phoenix and Amy Adams can already start picking out their outfits for next year’s Oscars.

@TotallySketch (Michael Gallagher) “Just saw ‘The Master’. A movie has never made me feel quite like this one did. I can’t describe it or even rate it. I am speechless.”

@LoganDoe  “@prfessorbigsock Hoffman is one of the finest actors alive. The Master is (more) proof. #themaster”

@aaldere1 (Andrew P Alderete, “The Social Network” producer Dana Brunetti‘s assistant) “The Master was amazing. Oscars all over this one.”

Roland Emmerich’s White House Down is moving up. Four months, that is, from the original 1 November 2013 release date to 28 June 2013. It’s surmised that the studio is doing this as a means to beat fellow White House gets captured by terrorist thriller, Antoine Fuqua’s Olympus Has Fallen, to the finish line.

Here’s a new international trailer for On the Road, Walter Salles’ adaptation of the famous Jack Kerouac novel of the same name. This new trailer is especially noteworthy for showing Kristen Stewart actually appearing to have fun. An absurd claim, I know, but it’s in there.

Speaking of Kristen Stewart, it seems that some people have really taken her cheating on Robert Pattinson pretty harshly. People like Will Ferrell.

Ha ha ha, trampire. That’s going to stick.

The official site for the Wachowksi’s highly ambitious film, Cloud Atlas, has gone live and it offers something pretty cool. On the site, they offer a timeline of all the various characters in the generations spanning film. Since the same small cast plays different characters through out the film’s timeline, it makes for a neat game of spot the actor/actress underneath all the make-up. Some are surprisingly hard to guess.

So what if Britain nearly ran the whole developed world at one point and are currently doing a pretty good job of hosting the most prestigious sporting event on Earth? Those will all just be footnotes in the history books compared to this major cultural revolution: SKY will be launching a brand new, full-HD channel where they will screen nothing but James Bond movies. Is it too late for us to change our minds about that (now clearly wrong) decision to gain independence from Britain in 1960?

The first couple reviews for Len Wiseman’s Total Recall remake is starting to come in, and thus far the consensus is precisely as I expected: Loud and pretty to look at, but completely shallow and forgettable. If that disappoints you, then let me offer this brilliant clip from MovieFone as respite, which sees stars Collin Farrel, Jessica Biel and Kate Beckinsale answer some hilarious fan questions and there do Arnold Schwarzenegger impersonations. Comedy gold, I tell ya.

(Psst, we gained Independence in 1961). But your point about a Bond channel still stands. Btw, have you seen the pic of
Daniel Day-Lewis as Lincoln? Spot. On.

Ah crap, got my dates swapped around. We became a sovereign state in 34 and gained independence in 60. Sorry, brain fart.
