Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

Niki over at JoBlo recently watched both Toy Story 3 as well as Stanley Kubrick’s classic thriller, The Shining. She immediately realized that a charming story about kids’ toys and another about an axe-wielding Jack Nicholson going crazy is a natural match. Naturally. Here’s some of the results of that:

There’s a new trailer out for Danny Trejo’s Bad Ass, a film that still boggles my mind with the fact that it actually got made. For those of you who don’t know, the film takes it’s inspiration from viral video about an old guy beating up a another dude on a bus. That’s it. That’s all that happened, and somehow they’re stretching into a full length film. Ah, Hollywood.

The cast for the Evil Dead remake keeps growing, with THR reporting new additions Jessica Lucas and Elizabeth Blackmore. Lucas is known from the latest incarnation of drek-fest Melrose Place, while Blackmore is famous for… well, nothing really. My interest in this film appears to be inversely proportional to the size of its cast. The more people get added, the less I give a damn.

All’s been quiet on the Batman front as of late, so this promo image comes as a very welcome surprise. It shows Batman being all Batmanny, which is really all that we can ask for. There’s been some speculation that this is actually not Christian Bale in costume, but rather a promo pic for a new highly detailed Batman statue. Which is really like saying that this is either very awesome or very awesome.

Continuing the trend of impressive promo pics, here’s the latest for Ridley Scott’s highly anticipated sci-fi epic, Prometheus. This is not new, as we’ve seen this room in the trailers before, just not this high def. (Click the image for full size).  Besides, around these parts we have a strict “Gather every scrap of Prometheus info as humanly possibly” policy, and I’m certainly not going to be the one to drop the ball.

The Guardian has a very interesting article up about Will Smith, and how lately he seems to be doing his damndest to make us forget that he is actually a two-time Oscar nominee. Now while I don’t think that actors/actresses have to only take Oscar bait roles, it is true that it’s been a very long time since Smith has done anything to truly test out his acting chops.

The Bill and Ted films were the catalyst for turning Keanu Reeves into a household name and Alex Winters into… Well, honestly I have no idea, because I haven’t seen him do a single damn thing since then. The time-travelling goofball comedies have reached cult status and now Keanu Reeves has spoken to The Independent about an update on the oft-rumoured third installment:

“Yeah, we have a script. We’re trying to put it together. It’s a good script too.”

Well, I’m certainly glad he added that last bit in there to assure us, because I was getting worried there for a second.

He previously elaborated on what the film would be about:

“When we last got together, part of it was that Bill and Ted were supposed to have written the song that saved the world, and it hasn’t happened.

“So they’ve now become kind of possessed by trying to do that. Then there’s an element of time and they have to go back.”

Excellent.

Last year, Dimension Films announced that the release date for Halloween 3D, the next installment in the rebooted slasher horror franchise would be October 26 2012. There was just one teensy weensy little hurdle they needed to overcome: Actually make the film. Well since then, not much has happened on the whole “film making” front, so surprising to absolutely nobody, they’ve decided to pull the film completely from their 2012 lineup. That’s right kids, they just cancelled Halloween. Boo-yah!

I received a very interesting mail in my inbox yesterday, which will help establish my newfound status as a non-Twilight basher. (Psst. Here’s a secret. I still mock Kristin Stewart in the comfort of my own home).

Anyway, since Twilight and The Hunger Games have both been a massive hit with the “I’m in the hormonal throes of puberty” crowd, it’s only natural that they get compared, despite not having a damn thing in common.

And that’s all from me. You guys may have noticed that I was flying solo on the site today. Darryn is off galavanting around the country, while the rest of the guys are… well, actually I have no idea where they are,  but that doesn’t really matter. All that does matter is that it allows me to celebrate my first No Pants Thursday in ages.

Ah, such a glorious breeze on my naked skin.
