Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

Everybody’s favourite kitchen utenstil sporting Canuck has finally been given an official release date. THR is reporting that FOX will unleash The Wolverine on 23 July 2013. The film has had a bit of a bumpy development ride thus far, so maybe by committing to a deadline, it will provide all the principals with some much needed impetus. The James Mangold (Girl, Interrupted; Walk the Line) directed sequel will be sharing an opening day with the Dirty Dancing reboot and a big screen adaptation of Disney’s Phineas and Ferb cartoon. Somehow I doubt they will offer much competition to Hugh Jackman’s flexing man chest.

It’s hard not to like Disney’s classic animated film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, but I have a feeling that most of us don’t like it quite as much as Taiwan resident, Annafaye Kao.

Entertainment Weekly has posted 5 new images from Russian director Timur Bekmembatov’s Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. I particularly liked their description of the following image:

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (out June 22) arrives at time when the scariest thing about bloodsuckers is how tame they’ve become. For decades they were merciless, seductive, and bloodthirsty villains, but now they’re more commonly seen as the sparkling, waifish, and weepy heroes of YA romantic chick-lit.

Look at this picture of ol’ Honest Abe: He’s mad as hell! And he’s not going to take it anymore, Stephenie Meyer! YAAARRGHH!

Did you know that they are doing a Godzilla reboot and that it’s going to be directed by Monsters director, Gareth Edwards? Well, now you do. Thus far though, there’s not much details on the film, except that due it still being stuck in script writing limbo, it’s clearly not going to able to make it’s proposed 2012 release date. Unless they hire Matthew Broderick again. I mean, now that Superbowl has passed, his schedule should be wide open again.

Anyway, the guys over at ShockTillYouDrop have compiled a list descriptively titled, What We Would Like To See From The Godzilla Reboot.

Slashfilm has 4 new images from Dredd. Based on these images we can now confirm two things:

  1.  This will definitely be a more hardcore film than the Stallone travesty
  2. Karl Urban’s oversized helmet does indeed make him look a giant penis trying to dress up as an American Football player.

The eagle-eyed folks at Collider have found something really interesting in the new Amazing Spider-Man trailer. At about the 2:28 mark, as the release date is flashed on-screen, the words “Mark of the Spider-Man” is faintly visible on grey metallic beam. If you follow that rabbit-hole down to markofthespiderman.com, you get greeted by… Well, actually not much. Thus far it’s just the Spider-Man logo and 6 static filled screens. Chances are though, that those screens will probably be showing off some new videos pretty soon.

It seems that you there’s just no stopping the vampire craze that has gripped the world. According to ShockTillYouDrop, Anne Rice’s literary vampire creation, Lestat, will be returning to the big screen. First popularized by Tom Cruise to much acclaim in 1994’s Interview with a Vampire, this will be the character’s 3rd on screen jaunt after the much less well received sequel Queen of the Damned in 2002, where he was portrayed by Angelina Jolie’s long-time boy-toy, Stuart Townsend.

The Tale of the Body Thief is the latest Anne Rice novel to be optioned, this time by Ron Howard and Brian Grazer’s Imagine Entertainment, while the uber-geek duo of Roberto Orcci and Alex Kurtzman will produce. Lee Patterson will be adapting the novel which sees Lestat swopping bodies with a psychic, who then decides to abscond with this new and more powerful body, leaving a powerless Lestat to try and track him down.

English funnyman and chat show host Graham Norton had both Liam Neeson and Patrick Stewart on his show recently. In an effort to keep the Star Wars vs Star Trek rivalry going, Norton decided to have a showdown using the respective toys of each actor. I think it’s pretty clear who won.

And honestly, that is quite possibly the coolest money box I have ever seen. Definitely adding that to the “Things to buy that I will claim is for my unborn child but is actually for me” list. Which already is a very long list indeed.

And now its time for me to call it a day. I need to get to work on designing my Winnie the Poo tattoo. No, that’s not a spelling mistake.
