This first full trailer for THE MUMMY reboot will claim what it has been denied!

A few days ago we got our first glimpse at Universal’s new The Mummy reboot led by Tom Cruise. Who was once again running (of course). This time he’s hitting Cruise-ing away from Sofia Boutella’s titular rag-wrapped undead terror. And the snippet we saw actually looked really cool. But now we have a proper full trailer for what is supposed to be the first entry in Universal’s Cinematic Monster Movie Universe, and it looks… Well, actually, it looks damn good!

Check it out below!

Tom Cruise headlines a spectacular, all-new cinematic version of the legend that has fascinated cultures all over the world since the dawn of civilization: The Mummy.

Thought safely entombed in a crypt deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient queen (Sofia Boutella of Kingsman: The Secret Service and Star Trek Beyond) whose destiny was unjustly taken from her, is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension.

From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.

Firstly, whoa! That is looking rather awesome. I especially like the scenes shot inside the plane, which – true to Tom Cruise’s practical stunts craze – was done for real inside the infamous Vomet Comet used to shoot zero-gravity scenes for movies like Apollo 13.

Secondly, I don’t think I’ll be able to get Tom Cruise’s shrilling shriek of terror out of my head for a very long time.

Thirdly, WAIT JUST ONE COUCH JUMPING MINUTE! Did we just see Tom Cruise die and then get resurrected? Is he somehow… part Mummy or something? Many folks have been wondering just how this shared cinematic universe is going to work, as unlike the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where all the famous Avengers can have their own solo films in which they beat up some baddies and then come together to beat up a bigger baddie, here the baddies are the famous characters. I mean if this movie has Tom Cruise beating Sofia Boutella’s Mummy, then how can the Mummy team up with Frankestein’s monster at some point down the line, for example?

So this is where I don my tinfoil hat and get all conspiratorial: What if by the end of this movie, it’s actually Tom Cruise that somehow becomes the new Mummy?! I know it sounds odd and unlikely, but this is the internet, and we don’t need logic and sense around these parts!

The Mummy is the directing debut of Alex Kurtzman, most famous for writing producing on several major franchises like the new Star Trek movies and the Transformers franchise, and also co-creating Fringe. He will also be shepherding this entire now cinematic universe for Universal alongside Fast and Furious franchise producer Chris Morgan. The Mummy also stars Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson, Courtney B. Vance, and Russell Crowe, and is scheduled for release on June 9, 2017.
