I was fortunate enough to have attended Disney’s Annual Showcase earlier in the year and thus received a glimpse of Benedict Cumberbatch as Marvel’s Doctor Strange. But now guys get to have your own glimpse at the upcoming Phase 3 film as the film’s first batch of set pics and video from its location shoot in Nepal has just rolled in over the course of the past weekend.

While you don’t get to see Cumberbatch in full costume as the Sorcerer Supreme – a reveal that Marvel will surely be keeping tightly under wraps – we do get to see the acclaimed English actor sporting a whole lot of facial hair (uncharacteristic for him, but traditional for the character) and looking a bit bedraggled. In the story, Strange is a skilled but arrogant surgeon who turns to mysticism to find his way when he becomes despondent after losing the use of his hands in a car accident, and ends up in Nepal where he meets the mystical Ancient One who teaches him about magic. The set video also shows us a mysterious hooded figure – your guess is as good as mine to his identity – as well as director Scott Derrickson (Sinister) doing his thing.

On top of that, another set pic also gives us our first look at Chiwetel Ejiofor as Baron Mordo, Strange’s mystical arch nemesis in slightly darker robes than his normal comic book accouterments- it has been reported that this iteration will be an amalgamation of characters, so expect him to maybe start off as a friend before becoming evil.

Check it all out below (via ComingSoon, CBR, SuperheroHype).

Doctor Strange was written by Jon Spaihts and also stars Rachel McAdams as the unnamed female lead, Michael Stuhlbarg as Doctor Nicodemus West, and Tilda Swinton as the Ancient One, while Mads Mikkelsen is also in talks to play the film’s mysterious lead villain. This may just be the most talented/critically praised cast in Marvel history. It is scheduled for release on November 4, 2016.
