Jasoon-Cheech-and-Chong

You think Freddy Krueger was a challenge for the Camp Crystal Lake killer known as Jason Voorhees? Well, the infamously mute murderer almost faced a far more diabolical foe: The incredibly overrated duo of Cheech and Chong. Bafflingly loved by stoners for some reason that might lend credence to the idea that a whiff of the green stuff causes good giggles, A Friday the 13th movie featuring the pair of loco weed advocates was at one stage considered.

That’s according to Friday the 13th Parth VI: Jason Lives director Tom McLoughlin, who revealed to horror filmmaker Mick Garris’ podcast Post Mortem (via EW) that the idea was pitched. Think Abbot and Costello Meet Frankenstein, but with the stoner pals crossing paths with Jason and his machete. This was still up in the air thanks to Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong riding high on the success of their comedy routine and Up In Smoke feature film, which also happened to be distributed by Friday The 13th rights holder Paramount Pictures:

[Frank Mancuso Jr.] wanted me to do another film after we did Jason [Lives]…And I said, ‘What are you thinking? I don’t know what it could be now.’ And he said, ‘Well, what do you think about Freddy (Krueger) and Jason?’ And I go, ‘But Freddy’s at New Line and the guys at Paramount have [Jason].’ And it’s like, ‘Well, we’re going to try and see if we can work something out.’ So, I started thinking about that, going, It doesn’t make sense.

I mean he lives in one realm and — you know, I take this stuff very seriously, what realm a monster’s supposed to stay in. And he came back, he goes, ‘Eh, forget it, it’s not going to work anyway.’ I said, ‘You know what? You guys own Cheech and Chong. What if we do Cheech and Chong-meets-Jason? They’re like camp counselors or something. It’s like, ‘Hey, man, I saw Jason out there.’ ‘No, man, that’s a myth.’ But he said, ‘You know what? No.’

Thank you Frank Mancuso Jr. for saving the day. Because honestly, I’d only watch that film if it ended with the marijuana mates suffering a gruesome demise at the hands of Voorhees.

The movie will end with the three of them getting high together, guaranteed.
Or, if they wanna go horror ending, Jason uses the Cheech’s hollowed out skull as a bong.
